I thought sub sandwiches *stomach growls*

I echo YOyo's WAF comment - either his wife is very tolerant or she has an appreciation for the low-end

Off to get a sub sandwich now...

The dude in question is very much pro-plasma and anti-projection. I am planning on getting a 720p DLP projector though.

Don't follow. Technically, Plasma still offers better quality. I am easily willing to give up a bit of quality for a much larger image.

ah yeah the famed DIY Sonosubs. They have 18" avalanche subwoofers in them.

He started with the swans, then made a DIY WMTW center. He just scored the N802 speakers used for a sweet price.

Frankly, at that scale, Id rather dig up an attached room and make an Infinite Baffle :D

Now the folks over at Royal Device have the right idea. Dig up the space below the sound room and turn it into a sub enclosure.
I give you the world's biggest (for now) horn loaded sub.

:laugh::thumbsup:

If that actually sounds good, I wanna build one some year.:p

He would actually love to do Infinite Baffle, but he says that his house doesn't permit it (no attic or something of that sort).

Just kidding, some people like plasma, personally, I can't stand them. I wish I can afford a 1080p 3 chip dlp :) I don't think plasma is better quality.

Basement? Basement can be a good baffle. Unless his HT is on the second floor, then it would be a little hard to do.

Why wouldn't it sound good? These guys are not messing around, look at the other components of that system. They built most of the components.

For $8k, you can get yourself a Sony Pearl projector with a nice screen, and still have money left in your procket. While I appreciate that some people have preference for one technology over another, a room such as this one screams for a front projector and a big screen. I have no problem with plasmas, I just don't think this is the right room for one.

You don't think his room is the right room for a plasma? What gives you that idea?

That is his living room, basically his den. Not only that, but the dude has seen a ton of projectors and is steadfast in his preference for plasmas. I was surprised too, but hey, thats him.

Those are subs right?

He'd need like 20 of those to match one of these:

http://www.rotarywoofer.com/

At which frequencies? Surely the Thigpen would easily have his currents subs beat from ~13Hz down, considering they are tuned around that frequency. He'd hardly need more than four, at most, to match the Thigpen from 13Hz up as far as output at a given distortion % is concerned.

For 18" AA ported subs with that volume? I'd say you're probably right on the money.

Indeed it can be. If it were an option, he wouldve done it. He loves IBs, and a good friend of his has a 4x SoundSplinter Rl-p 15" IB so he knows all about them.

It still doesn't decay fast enough for my eyes. Mind you, I can tell the difference between a monitor set at 70Hz and another at 75Hz so I may just be more sensitive that way.
