Holy fack Comcast is fast!

I just have the standard $50/month, I don't even know how fast it is. It's supposed to be 6 mbs?

It's been consistently downloading at 1.4 megabytes per second for the last two hours. That's 12 megabits!

And no it's not powerboost because that's temporary. When I do use powerboost on speedtest, I get 30 down, 4.5 up. DAMN!

Holy fack!!!!!!

I want to call any see why this is so god damn fast but I don't want them finding if it's a mistake, they turn it off. 😉

I'm in Boston area btw.

So you're one of those 5% taking up 95% of the bandwidth.

Isn't it 250gb a month? That's WAY better than any other carriers not allowing torrenting at all.

Um... comcast doesn't allow torrenting either, but there's ways to get around everything. Comcast likes to send out letters telling you what you've been downloading, which companies have made complaints about them, and warns you to stop immediately or shit will hit the fan.

Incorrect. They used to throttle for about a year. Then after all the fiasco and negative publicity, Comcast decided to let go of the throttling and introduced a monthly bandwidth limit INSTEAD.

That's both what I read in news and my real life experience- AND the tech CSR verified this himself.

Comcast wouldnt be worried if a small amount of people were using more than 250gb a month. Dont believe there lies! They want to make more money from those users not loose there business. Now they just got rid of there newsgroups which is another way to separate it for a comcast service and people pay $15-$30 more for that which is separate from there billing. I aways felt that Giganews is a Comcast subsidiary or there a major stockholder. The fact that they just raised the rate from 6mbs to 12mbs is to keep people from jumping to Verizon FIOS. Now I have a Comcast internet connection and its listed as $42- a month service but the only way I can keep the price at $42- is to get a Basic cable which costs $17- or pay Comcast $57-
a month for my basic internet because it tied to having a cable account. This kind of deceiving price fixing to get me to pay Comcast per month should be outlawed. You need to read the fine print whenever you deal with them or there support people which are trained to get you to spend more money with them not help you.

How fast is FIOS supposed to be typically? 10? 20?

nvm found my own answer.

download caps FTL!

seriously...

Once my area TW starts metering, which i doubt they ever will, i'll move to a slower DSL.

BTW powerboost NEVER works in my area. :\ I guess there too cheap with bandwith in my area.

I'm with ATT/Pacbell DSL. Does it have download caps? I am unaware of any. I think I'm supposed to get 2.7 Mbps. I got a letter yesterday offering to double my speed for an extra $5/month, plus they'll credit me $20. I'm thinking about it. I figure first thing I should do is some speed tests, though. I wouldn't really care much except that I turn off my computer at least once a day and when I reopen Firefox all my windows/tabs are restored and it takes several minutes for things to calm down and the internet is reasonably accessible. I figure that "double" speed might help this a lot... ? 😕

Pffft, comcast blows, i wish i had FIOS instead. I wish Verizon would just take over the damn country

Comcast has rolled out docsis 3.0 in some areas, so you may have that.

However, as a long time Comcast user and computer tech I have noticed that many people seem to have their modems unlocked when they first activate their service and in a few days the push out your config file and you get what you paid for.

Same service in NJ. Somewhat slower. I have the top tier package as well at 16mbps. And it should be fast considering they're charging us an arm and a leg for it. 60 dollars a month without a bundle. Look how low my ping is though. 11ms! Less jumps on the network and it helps online gaming.

Yeah, you get the raw speed of the network until they config your modem for the cap. I think it was RCN cable that did they heavy work in updating the networks in central NJ until they did a mass sell off to Comcast and others. I remember when RCN first did the update and they left my modem uncapped until they sold off. So I actually had a year to play with almost unlimited bandwidth.

OP, Comcast recently raised the speeds in areas where they unveiled docsis 3.0 thus far. Anyone who was on 6/1 was upgraded to 12/2 for free.

For free? Are you sure it's not 6-12 months free, and next year twice the price? That seems to be the current trend. Upgrade people for free, then rip them off a year later without them notifying them.

Nope, this one is truly a free upgrade.
