[snip]Winter heating bills for customers of We Energies could rise by 40% to 45%, or more than $300, giving consumers a new gripe at a time that they are paying more than $3 for a gallon of gasoline. ... Heating costs to jump We Energies warns of 40% increase this winter; bigger leaps projected nationally ...[/snipe] (thats Wisconsin FYI)

Thats insane. High gas prices at the pump I can stomach and deal with, but you can't cut back on heat THAT much in below freezing WI winters.

Katrina knocked out a significant portion of our refining capacities. Refineries were already running at near 100% so there's nothing there to take up for what was lost. Laws of Supply & Demand.

I burn pig feces for heating fuel so this shouldn't leave me largely unaffected.

Nuclear power folks... I'm just waiting to get electrical radiated heat for every home. Clean, cheap electricity that can do it all! :)

Who needs oil and gas? BAHHH!

Same with me. But landlord has a clause that allows him to charge a premium on rent to compensate for higher heating costs :(

I understand why its higher, I didn't think they were just raising prices because they wanted a new plasma screens.

WE Energies (or Wienergies as its called around here... GREAT marketing you fools) is the WI energy company.

Guess its sweaters and scarves for the family this winter. What a damned joke.

Isn't natural gas an entirely seperate fuel from oil/gasoline? (aside from the transportation aspects of course)

I never use the heater. It doesn't get cold here during winter. Though most other californians would disagree with me....but they just don't know what cold is.

I paid $1.35 a gallon, i know it hasn't gone down since then. I had them fill my tank and I prepaid for 600 gallons, i hope it's a mild winter and that lasts me.

Seriously...this is a pretty big deal. I know around here they can't cut firewood fast enough because the demand has shot up so much.

Increased heating costs - $300

At some point it will be cheaper to run an electric space heater in whatever room you are in. Keep the house a little on the cool side, then turn on a heater in whatever room you are using.

Luckily, with 2 computers and 2 large monitors, my Den is the warmest room in the house. (no so good in the summer though..)

Well, it's a good thing we cut down several vast trees a few years ago and have them stacked neatly on the side lawn.
