I wonder if he gets back pay for all of that time?

It's sad that the North Koreans took his life away though.

from what I know the kids that are mandatory enlisted in the korean army get about ~$10/ month, hope he gets more than that

Last June, he reportedly swam across the North's river border into China, where he was arrested. After lengthy negotiations, China allowed him to fly to South Korea on Dec. 24

He must be a tough old boot.

The North Korean regime is truly insane. The people of NK are literally starving to death and yet a whopping 30% of their GDP goes to the military. That plus they haven't released POWs from the Korean War?! Someone needs to go over there and shove their boot up some dictator a$$. :|
