Holy Crap! (Just put some stealth fans into my computer)

This thing is friggin SILENT now. I can't believe the difference. It doesn't sound like I've got a small airplane constantly running under my desk now. I can barely hear it. This rocks!

Link to the fans? 🙂

I'd like to quiet down my computer at home...After using my Dimension 4550, I can hardly stand to use my home computer...it's so loud and the Dell is SILENT!

thx 🙂

yeah...I put some stealth fans in my case as well...it just doesn't help that I have a Volcano 7 on my processor...that needs to be replaced.

Man, you have no idea. That thing is LOUD. Replaced the fan with a Vantec Stealth and it's way quieter.

I just use a Vantec fanbus to control the speed of my regular fans.
I have LED fans so I can't switch them with quiet fans... the only real reason I have them is for show anyways. 🙂

but congrats... that's really sweet!!

I dunno how I feel about the Vantec Stealths (not sure I trust the brand, & they're just not THAT quiet), but I do love quiet fans.

I use Panaflo and Papst in my system, & I have used some 16.1 dba Adda fans with great results as well.

For example:

Vantec Stealth 60 mm = 12 cfm, 20 dba, $8.99 (PhamComputer)
Adda 60 mm low speed = 13.2 cfm, 16.1 dba, $8.00 (PhamComputer)

Vantec Stealth 120 mm = 53 cfm, 28 dba, $16.99 (PhamComputer)
Panaflo 120 mm low output = 68.9 cfm, 30 dba, $17.49 (HS Factory) (undervolt if you want quieter, but 30% higher air flow at essentially the same sound level...)

The Vantecs are decent, I suppose, but there are better choices out there.

i know how i feel about the stealth fans, if I could do it all over again i would not spend my money on them.

i rather get Panflos, which I have after trying 3 stealth 80mm fans. Not impressive.

NMB is ultra quiet too, but it doesn't move much air.

I never used papst though, they good? cheap?

right now I have 2 Vantec Tornado's in my system 80x38 84CFM, one on my proc and one on the side of my case. If they werent so dang expensive I would get 6 more for the other spots.

have this right now, and am waiting to see if this is as good as they claim it to be... in the meantime, does anyone else have any other suggestions on a high cfm / low db fan? my comp (link in sig) runs at 52 degrees at 4800 rpm (48 dB) and i run it most of the time at around 3500 rpm (big drop in volume). cpu stays at around 56 mostly.

No, Papst are NOT cheap fans.

quietpc.com has an 80 mm Papst fan (28 cfm @ 20 dba) for $18.95. Without shipping. I've used two of them, they were amazing. When I got them QuietPC did not have a US site, I paid well over $20 apiece for them + shipping from the UK.

In comparison, you can get an 80 mm Panaflo for $8.49 that will do 24 CFM @ 21 dba.

Papst is the best (IMHO, of course), but is expensive as all hell.
Panaflo is quite good, and moderately priced.

Hmm, I'll have to try those out. I think I'm gonna get one of the 80's and use a fan adapter. This 60 on my alpha is driving me nuts.

yes, they sound like nothing now...but what about 6 months down the line? that's the real test. I bought my enermax ps and it was quiet too. But after 6 months, it started to make all kinds of weird noise. I'm not saying your fans will do the same, but if they do, please do me a favor and report it here that I can make a mental note not to buy those in the future. thx!

I've had my 430W Enermax for quite a while. No problems to speak of. They're ball bearing fans so they should last quite a while.

On a vaguely related note, I just replaced my PC Power & Cooling 300W supply with an Antec True Power 430W, and I can't hear it sitting less than three feet away. Unfortunately, that's made it abundantly clear how loud my generic CPU fan is.

If i decrease the voltage to my Panaflo L1As...it makes my taisol HSF seem loud :Q

Oh how I love these fans 🙂 Computer is still louder than Dells though 🙁

Wow, those SubZero4Gs look AWESOME! Hopefully they'll work well 🙂

What exactly is a "CLOD" plate??? 😉

(You gotta love them typo's...)

i have two stealths that are slowed down because they are running on my PSU's temp controlled fan rails. even at lower speeds, they are still a bajillion times louder than the full speed panaflo i have on my heatsink, and the panaflo moves more air. curse the day i wasted my money on that "stealth" crap. i'm sorry, but when i think "silent" i think "can't hear anything." if i can hear it, it isn't silent. and i can hear these. they're not loud, but i can still hear them from the other room.

i dunno, the stealth fans i have are pretty quiet. how you mount them helps. mounting one in the center of a plastic window will lead to vibration. i use rubber grommits to help isolate the fan from the case. that and accoustic foam for extra dampening, not great if your into case windows and stuff, but it works.

my case sits on two old rubber mousepads, probably doesn't do all that much but whatever, and it sits in a desk compartment with cover.

my prob with panaflows is that tehy don't come ready for use, no speed detection etc. a pain.

papbs or whatever is too expensive for me. but yea if cost were no object i'd get the expensive one😛

i don't know how people stand loud comps.

stealths got an annoying kind of wind to them when they spin... some have said you need them to break in first.

nevertheless, I held them in my hands not mounted them, and i held panaflos in my hands as well.

i compared them over a few days but i could have made a judgment in 1 minute... panaflos are NMB are more quiet... NMB is
near silent.. but not very powerful is all.
