87F in the Boston suburbs on October 5th. That's unheard of! We should break the record tommorow.

And they still say Global Warming doesn't exist. Just lots of little outbreaks of spontaneous combustion...

What's funny is that when it finally does cool off we'll be hearing "So where's this global warming? I'd sure like some."

How bout I send everybody who wants some right now while there's plenty to go around. It's been 90+ every week since april around here with no signs of letting up.

Yeah, but it's different in New England. It's been a really hot Summer, over 10 days of August and September were 90F or above and we got only 1inch of rain total here in the Boston area total in the last month or so. It's been really terrible.

Luckily the weather report says by next week it should start to get back to a normal pattern of mid 60s.

Its only been running the mid 70's here this week; of course with the ever so pleasant 95%+ humidity.

And it's in light of that sort of ignorance that the preferred term is "climate change." People hear "global warming" and assume that it means "120F temps in winter, broil a chicken on a sidewalk in the summer."

I'm in NW PA, and it's going to be in the 80's tomorrow. Yeah well, the longer it's warmer, the less I spend on heating expenses (gas furnace).

Oh, and, before it can be said:
"Eco-theism! Eco-theism!!!!!"

Like Anubis, I remember Trick or Treating with a couple feet of snow on the ground. I also remember trick or treating in shorts. October is a flux month, always has been, especially in the midwest where I am

youre a moron if you think 1 hot summer is indicative of global warming. There's just as much evidence of the summer being hotter because I turned 20.

correlation != causation

In case you were being sarcatic or ironic, my apologies, but it does not appear that way.

It's a trend. And the earth does not change its style as much as we do.

The word was "extremes" implying more than one extreme temperature reading.

Yeah, the planet seems to be warming up a bit. I've thought for quite some time that it was due in large part to us digging up loads of carbon-laden fossil fuels. I'll admit, I am considering the idea that we're not solely responsible. It may well be a natural process. But if it is, let's not be the feather that breaks the camel's back - if the planet's already doing its warming thing, let's not help it along. It won't kill off all life as we know it. It will just push the climate into a realm that we're not used to predicting or living in, which makes our lives a little less convenient. I just wish the doom'n'gloom aura that surrounds climate change would go away.

I insist that you retract your apology because I wasn't being neither sarcastic nor ironic. And see Jeff's post.

I agree with you partially. The planet seems to be wamring up because it is warming up. The real question is whether or not humans are the cause of it. If you look at the global temperature over the entire life of the planet, you'll see that the temperature is cyclical. At the moment we're at a time where the temperature is increasing. So I don't see the temperature increase as something to worry about, but we should try not to pollute the environment and keep the air clean, etc etc.

Anyway, enough thread hijacking. I agree with the OP. Here in Cincinnati it was 94F today. It was ~75 since the weekend. Not liking the high temps, today I was wearing jeans, a jacket and a hat. Not exactly 94F apparel.

I guess the main worry is that we don't know for sure what really will happen with higher temperatures. Devil you know (the weather we have now) vs the devil you don't (the weather we might get).

And besides, I'm on a college campus. Warm weather means the women wear less clothing.:D
