I was just in a hardware upgrade meeting and they were talking about upgrading the Ultra2Wide (80MB/s) SCSI connection on our tape drives up to fibre channel becuase these tape drives are being rather hindered by the slow 80MB/s....

WTF?!?!?! what kind of nutty tape drive is limited by U2W SCSI !!

Anyhow..anyone know how fast IBM 3590 tape drives can read and write data?

well, if you have 10 tape drives going at once, an each has potential to take 14 m/s, thats 140 m/s that could be used but you can only use 80 of it

Ah yes we have 9 of the drives that would be why ;)

I was wondering there...I didn't think tapes could go that fast.
