I cannot believe what I had just done, I CANCELED MY SUBSCRIPTION!
No more live person when you call the phone line, you get a "voice mail" to leave your problem on, and they will contact you back by a email within 72 hours.

They switched over to a browser only format to play your downloaded games on, and your FORCED into this no matter what, and it it doesnt work, at least not for me on any of my computers on my home, and this means the one in my bedroom, this one Im on now, my iffy laptop, my two boys computer and wifes. None of the desktop games I play will start, or get a 4100 error. Browser games if they start take almost 10 minutes before they do, and it only works on firefox, and thats not saying much because firefox crashes on its own 5-8 times a day depending on how much I uses it, which it isnt much at all. IE wont play anything at all, it just locks up and I have to force it closed when it tries to do anything at all with gametap.

So even IF they got their service to work, it will just continue to crash when ever firefox decides to go out on its own taking the gametap service with it, it makes no god damn sense in what they did!

I just coul not see paying or a service, IN BETA NO LESS AS WELL, that used to work great, and had a ton of my favorite games on the service, and I plugged this service to everyone I knew, shit for $5 a month, if you paid up front for the year, how in the hell could you go wrong, I told everyone I met about it on the net or in person, and it saddened me to cancel and write this out. And they claim there is just 1% of the people having a problem with the new change, which I find that hard to believe when I got a 100% failure rate on the desktop games, and a 100% failure rate when firefox crashes taking gametap service with it, on around 5 computers, on a 10mb internet connection, and my PC is a QUAD set up so its not slow thats causing it, and all the rest are between a PII, 754 laptop, 939, and another AM2 3800+x2, one of them you would think, if it was not a software problem would have to run the service fine i there was just a 1% failure rate they are claiming.

Be interesting to see now, without any live support to call and talk to if I will see any refund on my year I paid upfront on for if its gone this bad, I can pretty much for sure kiss my $55 goodbye, and I wont be hearing back from a single person about my credit when I leave "voice mails" :p

I'm using Firefox nightly builds and I may have 1 or 2 crashes a month. I'd say you have other issues with your system.

yea i haven't crashed firefox in over a month and use it every day. and generally browser based gaming (quakelive, instantaction.com) does not take that long to start and in my experience has been pretty stable. You might have other issues happening that are preventing you from playing the games. If it happens on all your home computers maybe it is a firewall/network issue.

I wish I could say thats the case, but it is not. I cam say that so far, as I knock on wood, I redid my laptop with a new drive and so far so good, it has yet to crash in the last 2 days, but as far as the others, they work for about a day or two, sometime even a month or so, I wont upgrade, or add any extensions, or nothing to them, or to any thing else, just out of the blue, the very first moment I get the crash report Im in for it, and I have to resort to chrome or safari till I redo my pc again, and even after I do that, its back to waiting or the inevitable crash report to show up and it all over again, again.

It never happened like this till it went to firefox 3, when I was using firefox 2 I never had a single problem, and you can click never upgrade till the cows come home, it wont matter either for just one day it will upgrade on its own without you doing a damn thing, and that pisses me off too. I hate not being able to use it, I can care less about IE, for it sucks all on its own with its problems and viruses, and constant pop ups and all, but firefox, I miss the extensions, I loved them all, especially clipit, and Im not the only one this happens to, just google it, and see, its really bad for some, and its to a point now on this pc, that it just goes right of the moment I start it up. I can select start a new session or old session, it wont matter, it just turns right off, and I done nothing but try to get game tap to work, and installed nothing more to it, and it was sorta working with gametap, and I installed nothing more, then it start last night the moment I clicked it to start up, it would flash the screen and go right off, and now I dont even get a crash report anymore.

Anyway, I canceled it out, even if the browser worked right, when it was sorta working, the games were not working, so no sense in paying for it still.

Your Firefox 3 issues are indicative of something bigger. That's obviously not standard functionality.

I didn't even know the change was happening until the gametap player started locking up my PC a few weeks ago. Since then I couldn't get anything to work properly so I kind of gave up; I just haven't gotten around to canceling my subscription yet.

On a whim I went back to the site and it actually says "BETA" at the top now. Did it say that before? Are we getting charged during what is now officially (I guess) "BETA" time?

Oh well - $50 a year to play 1000 different games was too good to be true anyway. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

Yes, being charged, and funny part is, they are charging people more for the service now since the change.

And you need to go to the forum and complain or cancel, for no one is doing so since the change, and they actually think they have only a 1% of people having a problem with the service, when everyone I have mentioned the service to, since I been using it, has all told me it stopped working for them as well, and most of them their browsers work, and some o them theirs dont, and are in the same boat Im in and are using Safari and Chrome, and GT doesnt work on either of them, and GT will no longer work at all on its own unless you have a working IE or firefox working.

This whole change was just plain old stupid.

Why they took away their own player, and have based their service entirely on the hopes it will run within a browser is just stupid stupid stupid just so they can make a few extra bucks on ad advertising. Shit IE, once you catch a bug through it, which you will, will flood you with pop up ads left and right non stop anytime you turn your pc on, and they want you to use that to run their service on?

And with firefox, Im not the only one having this problem, its not a "serious" problem with my systems when its been happening on many of my systems be it Intel, or amd, on dsl or cable, its a firefox problem, and like IE, it catches something at some point somewhere I go it doesnt like and it just starts acting up, and NO I dont go porno hunting on the web, but in any case it starts to go out, and GT no longer works, and Im left high and dry with out a 2nd option of a desktop player like we all had before the change that worked just fine.

So Im really not to sure who there is running the show anymore, but they are brain dead to make that move, and then pull out all live phone support as well to talk their customers OUT OF wanting to canceling their subscription, but letting them hear a phone message, and being told to leave a message, instead. That is just NOT how you run a multi million dollar company, well it is how you would run it into the ground and bury it, but not how you make a change to it and consider it for the better.

And then on top it all make it a BETA service, and all your paying and free customers be the test subjects as well, just insane! If it was all free, hell yes, I woldnt care, but I been with them for years, and just finally got around to paying them a year up front, and this is what I get for it. I dont think so.

I would run memtest86+(Not memtest86... Run Memtest86+, it is different and better) and see if your memory is screwed up...

Firefox crashing that much is not normal. I crash maybe once in a week, and I am a SUPER HEAVY web user.

What would you consider as heavy for you though. Im on this damn thing, from the moment I get up, around 7-8am, till I can finally get to bed at around 2-3am, mostly clicking on sites and reading for its almost at times all I can do, or I watch netflicks, for doing much else in my usual condition only makes things worse or me.

As for memory, as I said this is on several different pc's using several different mem configurations, from sdims to ddr 2, and it may work like I said or a week to a few months with no problems, going to all the usual sites, without upgrading anything at all, or downloading anything new, but once it crashes for the first time and I see that, "sorry but firefox has crashed" report box, I know thats it, Im screwed, for it will only start to crash, more and more and more, the more I use it, till its at the point its at now where it goes off the moment I click it on.

I can clear out all cashe, I can clean out the extensions folder, I can uninstall it, go through my pc and delete everything out best I can that had anything to o with firefox, reinstall it all over again, and it wont make any difference. The only thing I can do is wait for a time to come up when my computer is clogged with crap and it becomes time I have to redo my hard drive, and even then its like playing Russian roulette, for it may go back out right away as soon as I install it on a few clean reinstall of the hard drive, and it doesnt matter if I do a clean hard drive, or if I get out my software and do an Industrial strength wipeout of it. It doe what it wants to do.

But yet again, I say google this, Im not the only one this happens to like this im describing, many other people are getting the same exact kind of trouble just like Im having with my pc, and it cant be my router, for Ive gone through around 5-6 of them so far, wired and wireless. It cant be my ISP for Ive gone from DSL to Cable. Cant be just my PC< for it happens on not just mine, but my kids and wifes as well.

Im wondering really if it is that fake XPAntivirus you can get if your on IE, that once you hit an infected site using it, there is nothing you can do to stop it, but when you hit a infected site using firefox, this is what it does to you instead since it can seem to get through the way it was designed to with IE, to bombard you with pop ups like crazy, and instead of hundreds of random pop ups that IE would give me to tell me my computer is infected would you like XPvirus stopper to clean your system, my browser (firefox) just crashes instead. Maybe thats why sometimes I can go weeks or months before getting hit and it starts to crash like crazy, and maybe one of the flash game sites I and the kids go to is infected with that fake anti virus virus?

I feel your pain and have canceled my subscription of 4 years.

Aside from any browser issues you may be having, the "update" is a complete mess. I got 4100 errors on my largest downloaded games (GRID, Driver, TOCA and more). The only solution offered by support for days was to re-download everything. Oh, and you loose all your saved games too. W-T-F?!?! This is the second time this has happened, the first was when I bought a new computer (there is no way to backup game saves and downloaded bits and restore them to another machine). I'm not paying them to test their BETA software, that is ridiculous.

I've come to the realization that I can't count on it for serious gaming, that's what Steam is for. The casual playing of retro games was fun, but I won't miss it all that much (hello emulators).

I found a way around that, when redoing a hard drive, or new pc, how to even save all my games I downloaded, but this new thing they did to us, that was way wrong, and there was no way to keep all the old games and saves with this new change, we lost it all, and I had years of saves going on I and my kids lost. I was almost done with Toca 3, and I kept it mainly for that game, then DiRT, and then GRiD, and with those three for me not working anymore, and a ton of my kids games not working anymore, and then on top of that the browser quitting anytime they felt like it, , I was left with no choice.

Such a shame.

It's lame that they don't even support a re-install (to new hardware) without wiping everything away...whatever.

Gametap as we know it is done for. They must be switching business models. Have you seen the "Download to Own" catalog on the new site? GRiD alone is $29.95. That's 3 months of gametap subscription.
