Just got this Email and found it very interesting, it's true but my number is blocked so it won't work on me but it did for my friends phone #

I think this is worth checking out:

Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's
telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be
given a map to their house. Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing
my telephone number in google.com. My phone number came up, and when I
clicked on the MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live. Quite
scary. Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about
it--if a child, single person, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number,
someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The
safety issues are obvious, and alarming. This is not a hoax; Mapquest
will put a star on your house on your street. In order to test whether your
phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com

Type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (i.e. 555-555-1212) and
hit enter. This will divulge your name and address. You will see a link
option to the right for Mapquest (click on it), which will use the address
to provide a map to your home or place of business.

If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply
click on the telephone icon next to your phone number. If you want to remove
your telephone number, it takes 48-hours. If you are unlisted in the phone
book, you might not be in there, but it is a good idea just to check. You
might want to forward this on to friends and family.

The above is what we received from a friend. When we tried this we had a
little different experience because our ADDRESS is not listed in the phone
directory. Our name came up and a star was put on a street but it was
incorrect. Nevertheless we clicked on the telephone icon to have it
removed.

Check it after 48 hrs to see if your are still listed.

Oh and if this is a repost well it should be a sticky!

Welcome to last year.

EDIT: How is it an invasion of privacy when the same information is on several dedicated phonebook websites and available in the phonebook's hard copy?

This has been around forever. There's a bunch of online phone books. All google does is tie in something like Mapquest to it.

You can still do it; Google just makes it easier. Infospace has reverse listings for phone numbers, and then use MapQuest to find the location. It's really not that hard but Google just combines it - granted, it does make it much easier for those technically inclined but those with the knowledge will know how to circumvent it. (Well, not really circumvent, but you get my point).

Paypal me $39.95 and I'll send you an aluminum foil hat to protect you from google's mind reading search engine.

there are many sites that let you do reverse look ups on phone numebers, then you can use one of those online map things to plot a route. not much new here except the combination.
