Holy Crap, college admissions is starting to scare me!!!

Oh man, I used to be calm and cool thinking i could get in to most places i wanted to go. After reading some posts on the forum, you guys have really scared me. Now i want to get into any one of the good UC schools (UCLA, UCSD, or UCB). Now here are my stats:

GPA UNWEIGHTED = 3.7
GPA WEIGHTED = 3.75

SAT I = 1410
SAT II MATH IC = 700
SAT II WRITING = 700
SAT II US HISTORY = 670

AP HISTORY = 4

I have volunteered for 4 years at a local hospital doing community service every week. I also help setup computers for my city council and have networked several school computers together. I do all this for free and don't ask for any money. I also played basketball for 4 years at my highschool. I am active in about 2 clubs per year.

So what are my chances?? i could get into any one of these schools and be perfectly happy. If i don't get into any of these schools there is always UCI or USC as backup.

Now while I don't know much about the admissions policy to the UC system, most other places you are more than qualified. Those scores are a lot better than what I got, and I had no trouble getting into the colleges I applied to, agian, not UC's.

Hmm... Are you a resident of California? And what major are you applying under?
I think you are just about gauranteed entry into UCSD... For UCB and LA I would think your odds are good but your major really influences whether you get in or not...

dood you'll get in just fine.
Dunno about UCB but the rest you can get into easily.

i got into ucla on similar GPA and lower SAT scores than you.....

and funniest thing is I had NO extracurricular activities...i just left that section blank, I think i may one of the only applicants that did that lol....got cocky

I did have more APs that just one tho...are u taking any in senior year too? if not you should, cuz u can put those on your app too

GPA is on the low end. I'm not sure your other scores will make up for it. Good chance for UCI and SD. Ok for UCLA and UCB I think.

if you're in the top 10 percentile of your class you're guaranteed admission into uc? something liek taht? sorry can't remmeber hhahah

oh yea, with that volunteer work and stuff you should be in pretty good shape

i hate that my gpa sucks so badly. it's because the stupid UC system won't accept many of my classes (most of my elective courses don't even count!!). Also i really botched up freshman year too and that throws everything off. I think my test scores indicate that i am pretty intelligent. I would like to get into any computer science major, but if i can get in by going undeclared i would do that as well.

Ok, CS majors can go into the College of Letters and Sciences or College of Engineering at Cal... If you want to hedge your bets, apply to L&S... Or, you can apply undeclared as you said but switching majors into COE CS is real difficult and the L&S major is pretty packed, plus you'd have to take all the courses without knowing for sure you'd get in.
Hmm... Your electives don't count... So I am guessing that your not a Californian? It takes a lot to get in from out of state, but I think you can make it...

you never know. i know someone who got into berkeley but didnt get into la. another guy got in to berkeley but didnt get into san diego. i also know two people who got into berkeley with 3.2-3.4 and barely over a thousand combined sat score.

admission is pretty much unpredictable, so dont even bother trying.

YOu have a very good chance. Work extra hard on your essay and have them reviewed by a professional (or someone VERY competent).

Regarding the GPA: if it was low freshman year and then went up, it's good. They look at grades year by year, if they go up it's a good sign, if they go down it's a red flag.

I think you've got a pretty good chance, especially with your community service. Again, like someone else said, dunno about UCB, they're weird in admissions, not just political opinions. But you look good.

you should be able to get in all uc school.
however, choose your major wisely b/c some major has high standards then others, especially in ucb.

I would say you have a chance for all of them, but obviously don't count on UCB. Even if you had 1600 SAT, 2400 SAT2, 4.0GPA, 4 years of sports, community service, leadership, your chances for UCB would still be around 50%. I think they use a random number generator for admissions 😛

If you're in the top 10, you're guaranteed admission into A UC. However, they don't tell you what UC you are guaranteed into.😉

I would say your chances at Berkeley or UCLA are about 40%. Some people think it's more difficult to get into Berkeley than UCLA, but that's not always the case. Every year one or the other will accept too many students and then they have to cut back the next year. The year I applied, UCLA sent out too many offers the year before (according to the stats on their letter, your chances of acceptance were actually lower than Berkeley's) and so I actually didn't get it. But it didn't matter because I didn't really like UCLA and set on going to UCB or UCSD. However, I was still surprised by it all.

Everything else, you're pretty safe I think

I don't know about you but they only looked at my top 4 courses...which is good because I had an overall 1.7 GPA...but an 86-87% average in Chem, Bio, Math and English. My other courses brought down my overall but it didn't really matter. I just said "Screw it" and concentrated on the 4 that I used. Heh...now I have a scholarship to the school of my choice.

<< Hmm... Are you a resident of California? >>

Are you implying that admissions for non-californians are slimmer? I live in Ohio and I'm thinking about applying to Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo depending on my chances of getting in since I'd rather not pluck down $50 when the odds are against me. So does Cal-Poly give adverse treatment to non-Cali residents?
