Was doing my usual ER BS today & one of the nursing assistants was headed to the waiting area with a stretcher.. I went out in the waiting area with him & found a patient lying on the floor in the middle of a hallway & looked like he was in bad shape, I had the bystanders each grab a limb & we put him on a stretcher, rushed into the ER, I noticed en-route that the guy wasn't breathing, yelled for our ER doc, determined he was pulseless, started the Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols....

I started pushing the support staff (I was using the bag valve mask & giving him O2 & ran the code till the CCU Resident arrived), told them to hurry up, this guy was pretty young to code, etc...

CCU Resident showed up & became the "Code Captain" I backed off after ensuring everyone was doing their job & talked to the person who came in with him & found out the guy was one of our staff physicians, 44 years old, had small children @ home, started feeling funny, had been on his way to the ER to get checked out & collapsed.

We didn't save him:( :( :( :(

Valentine's day sucked this year.

yea that's terrible. A friend of my dads was running on Weds. morning, like he does every day, had a heart attack and died. He was about 50, had 3 sons and a wife. Valentines day will always be rough for those families

Sorry to hear that. You did your best, but when it's time to go, it's time to go.

A friend of mine was telling me about having to respond to a motorcycle vs. tractor trailer. Ouch.

I don't know how ER people do it. I just finished watching ER and the stories are so sad. Mom hit her own kid with her car backing out of a driveway. That could so happen to anyone. And for you guys to be there to witness and experience the pain and heartbreak of every instance is rough. I don't think I would last a day.

I'm glad you tried your best but I feel horrible for that physician's family. By the way, what's your occupation, Pliablemoose?

My girlfriend told me this: her mom's best friend's husband was killed this summer when he plowed into a tractor trailer on his motorcycle at 40 m.p.h.
