According to NVNews:

I received some exciting news this afternoon after finding out that a reference GeForce4 Ti 4200 is on the way. The GeForce4 Ti 4200 will be offered with either 64MB or 128MB of DDR memory. The 64MB model has a core clock speed of 250MHz and memory clock speed of 500MHz with a suggested retail price of $179. The 128MB model has a suggested retail price of $199 with a core of 250MHz and memory of 444MHz. Retail boards should be available at the end of April.

Notice that in Anand's GeForce4 review, it is mentioned that the GeForce4 is more efficient than the GeForce3 at the same clock speed. Knowing that the GeF3 Ti500 has a 240MHz core clock, the Ti4200 looks really good.

UPDATE: Thanks to NFS4 for the heads-up on the HardOCP Ti4200 preview.

That's the card I've been waiting for and I shall have it 😀

Is the GF4 limited by memory bandwidth like the GF2, or by the core speed? Interesting that they'd make the 128mb model with such a lower memory clock speed. I guess they have to cut costs, but it'll just confuse people more if the 64mb model is faster than the 128mb model in many of today's games that don't need more than 64mb.

<< Is the GF4 limited by memory bandwidth like the GF2, or by the core speed? >>

short answer: yes. long answer: hell yes. i think every 3d card since the beginning of time has responded much better to mem OCing than core OCing.

damn damn damn, as much as I want one I think i'm going to wait for nvidia's next release. In about 5 months from now right?

I've been itching to snap something into my spare PC's AGP slot ( its using the built-in VGA of the Nforce 420). THIS is the reason I'm looking for 🙂.

Greater than GF3 Ti500 performance for only $179 - you certainly can't go wrong with that. This is going to be one killer card.

Is the GF4 limited by memory bandwidth like the GF2

No, GF2 based cards are extremely memory bandwidth limited and seldom yield any performance gains with regards overclocking the core. GF3/GF4 cards OTOH are nowhere near as memory bandwidth limited and often show performance gains even with just overclocking the core.

I'm not seeing all of the excitement surrounding the Ti4200 (250/500). The 128mb model is said to be around $199. The GeForce4 Ti4400 (275/550) can be found on pricewatch for $234. Thirty bucks isn't too bad considering the GF4 core chips are a tough overclock and you're sure to get some faster rated ram to work with if you choose to oc it.

Just a heads-up, the MSI GeForce4 Ti440 comes with a 285mhz core clock. G4Ti4400-VTD (MS-8871)

Same here new Nvidia card with a new name so no Geforce for me.The GF4 TI4200 is at a great price so most gamers will be able to afford a decent card at a decent price.

🙂

That's the way things should be, decently priced. I don't enjoy paying as much or more for the vid card as I do for a cpu or mobo. True there's more transistors in a gpu than most cpus out now but it's still a smaller part in the whole machine. Maybe we need more competition to drive prices down. Hehe Where are the Glaze cards or the new Matrox's that I hear about?
