SetiSpy said this WU (which started over when I installed 3.0) was going to take 16 hours and change to do this same WU. It is now saying 7 hours and 35 minutes!!!! WHOA!!!!

After 20 minutes it 4.444% done. That is CRAZY fast for this machine. Anyone with a K62 upgrade now!!!

The P266 is down to 16.5 hours for it's current WU (don't think it's ever done one below 18 hours) so that's a bit of improvement. The P233 is like 20 hours now, but it only has 512k la L2 whereas the P266 has 1MB so that makes a big difference between 2 Socket 7 processors.

GET THIS CLIENT NOW! 🙂

Well if that is true, then Athlons will SCREAM even more than before! 🙂

Someone with an SSE equipped machine run this client and see how it compares. We won't know if it's 3DNow! optimized or SSE optimized unless the Seti official folks tell us I guess, or if there's some freaky way to test to see if those types of instructions are going thru the system. Hmmmm... anyone have an idea to see if it's 3DNow! or SSE (or even MMX) optimized?

Thanks for the links, I'll give it a try, let ya know how it goes! Those were lightning responses by the way....

Seems to be slowing down as it goes quite a bit. After 1 hour 4 minutes I have 13% done. It's showing 12 hours 45 minutes to complete the WU right now. I will watch and wait

I believe they also made the program smaller, so it needs less cache, so it will perform better on all systems.

I remember it being ~13MB on top on Linux before. Also look in Win2k and it's hovering around 14MB. How can you tell how big the actual program that we talk about fitting in 1MB of cache is?

People were saying the program needs about 600Kb L2 Cache to run. It fits in there. So thats why a PII 400 will score waaaaaay better then a Celeron 400. Someone said it now fits in 256Kb L2 cache.... I think...

It was able to finish in a little under 8 hours on my Athlon. Not bad as before with the 2.04 I was getting around 8:45+

K6-2-525 (5x105) on a good mobo but only 512K L2 cache.
RH Linux 6.0
Nearly finished at around 20 hours...

This machine was doing them in around 16 hours on 2.4/2.76 client...
(Has done them in 14hours before)

So is this a Windows thing only ????

Seti Spy showed some radical times off the start, so I went to bed. Got up and it was done in 4 hours. Gonna have to let it chew on another unit to check that time, used to take 16.

Seems like im getting about close to the same speeds. Tried one WU, and it took 7 hours, normally 8 on my PII400.
