Since I'm spending 3 weeks (just finished week 2) in a hotel here in Colorado I discovered I needed a printer for Mapquest directions and such.
So I went to Wally World to buy the cheapest printer they had that wasn't a Lexmark. I picked up the HP Deskjet 3740 for $35. Not the fastest. Not the quietest. But since it's just me in this hotel room (most of the time. . .
) I didn't care really.
Mapquest, emails, etc, all printed nicely on HP inkjet paper. I went back and bought the black ink cart (cheap printer only comes with color cart!) and some 4x6 Premium Glossy Photo Paper.
I started by printing some of the photos from the drive from Cali to Colorado.
:Q
They look friggin awesome! Granted they probably won't look as good compared to my friggin expensive Epson that's still in CA, but these prints are just beautiful! I then started printing some snapshots from folks at work and they still look good.
All photos were taken with my Olympus C-4000 4mp digicam. Tweaked in Photoshop just for size.
I just wanted to share that modern inkjets are putting out some decent quality prints. Obviously, HP's low end inks won't have the archival qualities of the high end inks from any of the major manufacturers, but for snapshots and such this printer is awesome.
I'm nearly out of my first color cart. I'm going to refill it at a local shop that does it for like $10 and see if they still look good.
