It finally arrived today from Harmon Kardon -- my Infinity HTS20 5.1 speaker system. It weighed 75 lbs.!! Almost broke my elbow carrying it up the stairs because of its size and weight (think half refrigerator). The sub is close to a 24" cube, and the center channel weighs in at about 15 lbs by itself.

:Q

Hooking it up tomorrow. Hopefully the police will be understanding... ;)

Pansy... ;)

75lbs nearly broke your elbow?

Dude, when I weighed 115lbs a year ago I had to carry a 60lbs monitor up the stairs all by my lonesome.

Heheh, anyway, enjoy the home theatre- that's a sweet set up! :D

Sounds like someone needs to make joining a gym a new years resolution.:D

weight is weight.

but if the load is awkwardly shaped (huge box) carrying it is not easy.

The problem wasn't necessarily the weight, it was the size of the box -- add 15lbs then double the size of that monitor box. With my arms fully extended, all of the strain was on my brachialis, not my biceps or shoulders or back. So, that was taking the brunt of trying to keep the box close to me.

Thanks, Mday. :)

I do need to hit the gym though, admittedly. Haven't been doing weight training lately.

Now if you wanted a really good HT, you should have gone with a micro Bose system! That's where the sound quality is! ;)

Any good HT is gonna weigh a lot. Weight is a pretty good indicator of build quality. My Yamaha receiver is 45 lbs by itself. The Klipsch towers are easily 50 lbs each, and my sub is closer to 100.

Like BDawg said, weight is usually a pretty good indicator of quality.

And, reguardless of weight, if something is awkward, it's a bitch to move. Try grabbing an 8' sheet of drywall and moving it. It might only weigh 60 pounds, but if you don't have long arms, you are going to have a dog of a time moving.

I have heard the "suck" part about Bose, too. Everything I've read says Infinity makes some high quality gear. I'll post my results when I have the chance to string the wires (wife wants to go shopping, blah).

LOL! :D

When people ask me about my stereo or for advice on what brands are good, I usually tell them about that. I have a Yamaha RX-V870 that weighs about 35 lbs and if they ask I tell them "Yeah I like my Yamaha, it's really heavy." :D
