Holsters Recalled Because Strap Can Cause Gun To Fire
Eight Accidental Firings Reported
WASHINGTON -- A Pennsylvania company is recalling about 3,200 gun holsters because the strap can catch the trigger and cause the weapon to fire accidentally.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said there have been eight accidental firings reported.
The Fobus USA Holster Division of First Samco Inc. is recalling its Fobus GLT holsters, designed for Series 17 and Series 19 Glock handguns fitted with a laser-sight light.
The CPSC said there have been eight reports of the Glock handgun unintentionally discharging when being inserted into the gun holster, and one report of a user injuring his finger when a Glock handgun unintentionally discharged while being inserted into the gun holster.
The recall involves two early versions of the Fobus GLT gun holsters.
In the old design, the strap could catch the trigger.
The holsters have been redesigned with wider straps and a plastic tip that is too wide to be caught in the trigger guard.
The recalled holsters were sold at gun accessory retailers and distributors nationwide and on the Fobus Web site between March 2002 and March 2003 for about $40 to $45.
Consumers should stop using the gun holsters immediately and bring the recalled gun holsters to an authorized Fobus USA distributor for a free replacement gun holster or contact First Samco Inc. for instructions on how to return the product for a replacement.
For more information, consumers can call (800) 508-3997 or visit Fobus USA.
