Holodeck sex = prostitution?

After watching a star trek episode on Spike tonight where Lt (jg) Barkclay apparently has sex with Troi in a holodeck sim, I got to wondering... should that be considered any better or worse (or just different) than prostitution?

(Not that I'm particularly pro- or anti prostitution in the first place.. this is hypothetical)

But in theory she would never know about it..... in that sense, is it any worse than faping with a Maxim or Playboy?

Eh?

It's one thing to whack off to a magazine. It's a complete different thing to have SEX with a holgraphic image of someone. I don't remember the episode off the top of my head, but if I were Troi, I'd be irate.

no, its more like a future realdoll. which is a sex toy.. so that would be a virtual sex toy. prostitution would be if it was sentient(sp)

Dear god man...please get ur ass of that chair and into a gym or something.....LOL!

EDIT: P.s. go get drunk somwhere too....but dont drink and drive...:|

What's worse than people even posing the question, is you putting forth the distinction above as some matter of fact common sense. You are every bit a freak as the trekkie who started this thread.

Your thought process is illogical.

Digdug, I will have you know that this thread is 1) obviously hypothetical and 2) the ethical conclusions put forth here can have value nonetheless

ive not really seen too much ST but my buddy and i have long gone over hypothetical holodeck ideas.
its seems like the holodeck could get super-complicated. he kept mentioning creating a holodeck in the holodeck (much like filming a television screen that the tv is hooked up to)
my one concern is that getting too used to such a thing could lead to an inability to judge reality from fantasy within some individuals.
