I'm mostly curious to see if anybody breaks out of AMPTP and does their own deal. The interests of the various studios are not precisely or even particularly well aligned at this point. Not all of them are likely willing to endure a lengthy SAG strike.

You seem like a really angry and unhappy guy, which is probably why you make the basically unsubstantiated asshole personal attack posts you do. It must really suck to be you. Be it by means of a colonic or a therapist, you most certainly have shit to unload.
I think he's just worried that you might come off as a bigger lobster than he does. Personally, I love the stuff he says about me, doubtlessly very cathartic, like making one's bed. Character building and all...... The rose blooms on a bush of thorns. He has a lot to learn about the limits of rage. All that hatred is for himself and he has no idea. He needs to go even deeper.

Yep. Hate does nothing but burn you up inside. Most useless emotion.

It is very effective at pushing us through pain.

The problem is that he does not realize either that he is in pain or that the pain is all about being made to feel guilty of something real that would warrant him deserving it.

If he could feel his rage to the bottom, he would find a very sad child and grieve for what it, he, has suffered.

I would love to blame him for my suffering too, but I remember that child and I see him in me, filled to the brim with useless rage. He has a very sharp knife but I have bled deeply.

His knife is paltry compared to the ones I have used on myself.

Cancelling MAXm and AppleTV. Will keep Netflix as it's shared. Prime is more for Amazon shipping so that will stay

I've been following Chris Stuckman for years, for his love of movies showing through in his movies reviews. He's someone who lives and breathes movies, and has been trying for years to get his first movie (as writer/director) off the ground, which is now in post production. It's very low budget and partially crowd funded. He's not even eligible to be in the unions yet.

His take:

Across the whole industry this is....really not a lot of money.

I wonder what the mood at say Universal and Paramount is like these days since reportedly the big demands from WB/Disney are a major problem, considering the relative performances lately.

That's it? That seems like a drop in the bucket, and also way less than even a handful of top actors cumulatively command. Am I going crazy, or just totally misunderstanding?

It's a lot more manageable than I even thought given the figure is for all filmed entertainment. I really question how tenable the AMPTP's position is as some studios start to consider their own little chunk of this not to be a bad deal compared to being essentially out of new product for who knows how long.

But I want to talk about Fran Drescher. I used to think she was a bimbo, a twerp. She played The Nanny, and had that, ummmm, distinctive (and grating) accent.
Its called acting.
Actors act, doctors doctor, auto mechanics repair cars, thats kinda how it works. Tom Hanks was once in an aids movie but that doesn't mean Tom Hanks devoted his life to fighting aids. Hanks was once in a space movie Apollo 13 but that doesn't mean Tom was or became an astronaut. It was a role, an acting role, thats all.
Fran Drescher is and was an actress playing a silly nymph and very convincing she was only shows how good of an actress she is and was.
I know, it can be hard for the audience to separate the actor from the role especially when the actor can be so convincing but hey, thats what they do. To convince the audience.

Seldom in life are actors what they pretend to be on the screen. And double that for sports figures. Sports figures are considered role models until they beat or rape a woman, kill someone, or are caught cheating. Just because one can hit a ball or make a touchdown doesn't mean they are good people off the field. Sorry.

PS. An idea?
Usually during a strike the company hires or tries to hire scabs. Someone who is willing to work or replace workers that are striking. Well folks.... here's your big chance to become a movie star. Imagine one of us forum members as the next Indiana Jones? Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity? I'm getting an agent asap. :p

Fran Drescher interview
pretty succinct and impassioned. the digital scan of background extras and cg likeness is just an outrageous overreach by the studios. the fact that they are trying to keep the contract terms to something written in the 1960's is pretty telling about how bad faith the executives are operating in.

the ai scriptwriting stuff is unlikely to be settled in one go.
there is no copyright for anything not created by a human so as a tool it is fine, but if the studios are trying use it as a way to pay the writer who fleshes out an ai generated treatment/step-outline less than they would make for a human conceived original idea then they should think again.

say goodbye to the 2023/2024 season. this looks like it will go long.

With how ridiculous, predatory, and greedy they're being, I honestly don't know why they don't just start forming their own studios at this point.

There's multiple execs literally saying they want to cause people to start losing their homes. They've gone straight up evil.

I kid. I joke. Frankly, I don't give a darn what happens to millionaires who can't pay their mortgage because they are not acting.
And besides, we'll always have those Andy Griffith reruns. I just love Barney.

This really isn't about the minority on top of the acting pyramid. Most working actors need second jobs to pay rent.

The studio AI proposals are aimed at the already lowest paid background actors once, some tiny amount like $200 and just using their likeness in perpetuity.

Whoosh. No more 20 plus episodes a season, with residuals like that anymore. That's part of the point. Average non-star actor might make 30K a year.

Perhaps this question has already been answered...is it actually a lock out rather then a strike?? The Industry has decided it needs a new business model??
