As long as Sen Patrick Leahy is against it, its never going to pass. I think he knows it would have a great impact on the 2002 elections. It will be interesting to see if the bill is reintroduced in 2003, under a new name(again). I can see the democrats against it now, supporting it if they reclaim the house and have better majority in the Senate.
The bill IS NOT defeated yet, it could still get out of committee, but its not likely with a big general election right around the corner. Its really next year you have to worry about, hopefully democrats dont gain anything, or dont gain enough to be able to over ride a veto. Because I can see as I said, democrats going from being against it pre election to for it after, I also see Bush vetoing without a second thought.
