“Queen Of Clown Porn,” Hollie Stevens, Dies Of Breast Cancer At Age 30
I thought a post about the passing of an adult film actress who was known as the “Queen Of Clown Porn” could be interesting. But the illness and death of Hollie Stevens, age 30, of breast cancer is nothing short of absolutely tragic. Friends say that Stevens had no health insurance and couldn’t access decent health care; a lump on her breast claimed her life barely out of her 20s.
According to The San Francisco Weekly, Hollie Stevens found a lump on her breast, but “going to the doctor [was] hard when you don’t have insurance.” Then, in January of last year, she went to a doctor and discovered she had cancer. A health care program in SF called Health San Fransisco enabled Stevens to get eight treatments of chemotherapy, followed by a mastectomy. That was when she learned she had bone cancer as well, followed by a return of the cancer in her breast and cancer in her liver.
Hollie Stevens died on July 3, of stage 3, metastatic breast cancer, with her husband by her side.
Stevens performed in over 170 films and pioneered “clown porn,” which, simply put, is porn featuring women dressed like clowns. She was nominated for several AVN awards and traveled the country as a feature dancer for “Holly Wood.” She wrote and modeled for Girls And Corpses magazine and had paintings hanging in a Burbank, California, gallery. In her obituary in the SF Weekly, her friend Vanessa L. Pinto wrote, “In a recent conversation, she shared that the things she would want to be remembered for is that she loved being a wife and friend more than anything.”
Before you judge the fact she apparently didn’t earn enough to afford health insurance, think about all the people — especially young people — you know who have gone uninsured. I lived without health insurance for three whole years. I know dozens of other musicians and writers and actors just like me who also are or have been uninsured.
