Holiday Inn's Towel Amnesty Day

August 28, 2003 has been declared Towel Amnesty Day by Holiday Inn. I think this is one of the funniest campaigns I've ever seen. They took out a full page ad in last week's Time Magazine.

My parents have a Holiday Inn towel from the early '80s that they still use occasionally. I should bring it back there, just for kicks. 😀

I was at a Best Western recently which had a great solution to towel stealing. They had a little sign in the room that said something like,

"We are asked frequently to make room items available for sale to our guests. So we now offer the following items from our Housekeeping department: Pillows $10, Bath towels $8, Hand towels $5, Coffee mugs $4, Blankets $15 (etc., etc.). If you wish to purchase any of these items please contact our Front Desk and delivery to your room will be arranged. If you prefer to purchase the items that are currently in your room, you may do so and your credit card will be charged accordingly."

So it's technically not possible to steal from them! 🙂

I have one. Its was holding an ice packs on my buddy's knee, as we went to the hospital. Apparently drinking and running down stairs aren't a good mix.

I like it. That's a pretty good idea.

BTW, why did they put quotes around the options in the poll?

No kidding.

What if one was used to "clean up" on some couple's wedding night or something? Gross.

I always take my own towels with me to a hotel.

Are you serious? No offense, but this sounds like OCD, not prudent sanitary behavior. Traveling with towels is awfully inconvenient, and bleach and detergent will kill pretty much any contaminant that could be lingering on a towel. Do you really think your own used towels are cleaner than a hotel's freshly-washed ones?
