If you are talking about a hole saw that looks like it has a drill bit right up the center of a cup with teeth on the lip, then yes, you mount it in a drill. The center drill bit pilots the rest of the hole saw.

BTW these are not easy to use when you want to drill a hole non-perpendicular to the surface of the wood. For doing that you may want a special bit that I have seen recently, one that drills curved holes and is advertised as 2x faster than a normal hole saw.

my hole saws have an adapter peice that plugs into the drill.... I think it's call an arbor. It acts as a drill bit (drills a hole in the center of the circle) so you can keep the saw steady.

Cool thank ya... I was thinking of blowing 2 holes, a 92mm on top and a 92mm in the front. The only drill i have though is a 14v cordless Skill, so i might have to talk to my dad. He's got a whole garage full of some nice tools... :)

thanks again :)

One more quick question, how much smaller should i make the hole (in comparison to the fan). Like if i want to use 92mm fans, should i use a 88-90mm hole saw??

Your hole should be about the diameter of your fan. For a 92mm fan, it's 3 5/8 inches, but a 3 1/2 inch holesaw works fine too.

<< Use a dremel to make a blowhole >>

a holesaw is easier and better looking. take your time and remember to lube up.

i find dremels a bit difficult to use, but then again i'm just a dumb carpenter ;)

<< I think holesaws are cheating :) besides holesaws can do only 1 thing a dremel can do thousands >>

i got both, but i use the holesaw for case holes. nice and clean.

dremels are neat, but there practical uses are few, to me. your experience may be different.

and my sawzall is by far the worst at cutting blow holes ;)

Ive never been able to cut very well through antec cases with a dremel. As for the hole saw size, i thought you were soppsed to do a little smaller for some reason, maybe im mistaken.. oh well

thanks for all the great responces :)

You want the hole to be about 4-6mm smaller than the fan, this will provide plenty of clearance for airflow while making it virtually impossible to get fingers past the grill to the sharp edge (this way you don't have to dress the hole). Like dew042 mentioned, always use lubricant when cutting into metal with metal--best to have a small dish of oil to dip bits/saws into, and don't be afraid to peroidically stop, clean and re-dip. You will want to drill a 1/16-1/8" pilot hole first, trust me. Finally, drill into the exterior surface, this puts "slag" (whatever) under the fan, again saving dressing. Looks real nice.
