Hole Drilled to Bottom of Earth's Crust

Nikola Tesla could have cracked the earth in two with a device the size of a can of coffee.

They have that coffee here. It's soooo strong. Now I know where the saying comes from "coffee strong enough to sink a ship". :Q

So why is this a big deal and why did they stop drilling? If it only takes 8 weeks to get as far as they did, why not just drill for a few more weeks and get to the mantle already?

The depth of the Moho varies. This latest effort, which drilled 4,644 feet (1,416 meters) below the ocean seafloor, appears to have been 1,000 feet off to the side of where it needed to be to pierce the Moho, according to one reading of seismic data used to map the crust's varying thickness.

...

The latest drilling was done at the Atlantis Massif, located at the intersection of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Atlantis fracture zone, two plates of the planet's broken crust.

The reason they were 1000 feet off is that the drill was deflected by the ZPM powered Atlantean shield.

And wow, 8 weeks to drill almost a mile. Vs. the MTA who has spent the last 8 weeks to jackhammer through the downtown sidewalks.

didn't he use an oscliator, or a renosance generator, or something? I read he almost flattened N.Y., cause manahattan is a sandy island, and the sand built up the renosance. He said he could crack the world in half with one, and a reasonable supply of dynamite.

Yeah, I didn't understand the stop and how they could be "Oops, we missed the mantle". I mean it's not like there is something else under the crust besides the mantle. Then again, I'm a business student, not a science student.
