Hold Shift While Executing ATI TV????

I had a problem with my ATI TV Wonder, and I searched the helped files on the ATI Website. Anyway, the solution says to hold the shift key while executing the program. I tried this, and it worked. I was wondering what does the shift key instruct the computer to do?

Also, does anyone know how to edit the shortcut so that it will automatically execute as if I was holding the shift key?
