Holcomb beats out Couch for Browns starting QB job.

ESPN article.

If Holcomb doesn't completely blow it in the first couple games, expect Couch to go elsewhere. He's already expressed disinterest in the Browns should he not get the starting job. Looks like he cocked it up in the preseason thus far, so he's offically the highest paid second-stringer in the NFL now (don't really know that as a fact, just saying 🙂).

I hate to say bad about Couch, although he is a Kentucky native and led our precious UK team a while back, but he's been sucking. Of course, he doesn't have much of a line up there in Cleveland, and his support staff isn't up to par, but Holcomb seems to be doing some good with it. Too bad for Couch.

Charlie: Do you ever wonder if Hal Mumme's offense at UK made Couch look better than he actually is? Think about it. The old "Air Raid" days......

Not to take away from Couch as he set some records in Lexington and is still considered one of the best our Wildcats produced.

I would love it if Cleveland trades Couch to the Cowboys. We are in desperate need of a QB, and Couch has a 60% completion percentage. He just needs to keep his interceptions down and we have a much better line than the Browns do (well when our injured guys come back it's pretty damn good). Oh yeah trade Couch please!

The announcement actually did surprise me a little bit. I really don't care who starts as I think they're about equal. It'll be interesting if Holcomb starts, does well, gets injured, then Couch does well.

I've heard a couple of rumors about Couch to Dallas if Holcomb became the starter. He would probably work out well under Parcells. Hook back up with James Whalen again too.

Couch was 7-4 as a starter last year and led them to come-from-behind wins over the Titans and the Jets, both playoff teams. "He's been sucking" just isn't accurate. The Browns, since their return to the NFL, never had a rushing game until the second half of last-season, so just about any QB would have struggled. Couch's numbers for his first 4 years in the league compare favorably to most NFL QB's.

Bottom line is they are both good QB's - but money has to be a concern with that much sitting on the bench - add in the huge contract that Courtney Brown has, who has been injured and produced very little, and the similarly huge contract Gerard Warren has ( and he has no excuse for not producing ), and the Browns have a HUGE chunk of their cap figure tied up in three guys who won't be doing much at the start of the season.

And he's 0-2 so far this year.

The clowns are making a big mess out of this one. They should have either traded Holcomb or Couch at the past draft for one (or more) draft picks. Right now, they have two guys with very little confidence, constantly looking over their shoulders wondering when they might get yanked for the other guy when they have a bad game. That's just not a good way to manage QB's.....

i dont see them beating the 49ers...but we will see...i think if he goes 0-4 then there is no way they can keep him in

0-4 or if they drop behind the Bengals in the standings 🙂
