I think this will be a huge test for Cujo. He was never expected to win a cup in Toronto (he didn't have the defensive or offensive support) so we were always happy with a playoff birth.

There is no doubt Detroit expects the cup this year. He has not done so well when large expectations have been placed on him (Winter Olympics for the most recent example) so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Any thoughts on the new obstruction rules? Do you think they will just do it for the first month then let it slide like all the other times they tried to bring in new rules? I think it would be great to see guys like Shanahan, Federov, Naslund, Bertuzzi & Mario play with not obstruction :D I'd hate to be a defenseman though :D

ps. Fedor Federov is looking good :D 2 goals against San Jose last night............ to bad the sharks are having troulbe signing Brad Stuart & Nabokov (sp?)

Cheers,

We won after a 21-round shootout
holy crap!!

The reason I dig the fast puck drop is that imo it totally speeds up the game. And after a long night, it's nice to get out a few minutes early.:)

I've liked Dafoe since his brief Kings stint. But last year after I saw him in that bad@ss fight, I LOVED HIM! He is a badd@ss!

I got all the horror stories right before stepping into the box like, "Remeber that guy last year in Anaheim!" (Some dude working penalty box for the Ducks failed to check the door "lock" after someone was checked into the boards right in front of hi...next time there was a check in from of him, door flew open and broke his leg)

Another thing that blew me away was that everytime a dude gets mad checked into the boards by the announcer (right in the middle of the two penalty boxes) the place shakes with such force, phones fly off hooks, tvs rattle around, it's insane. They have most of their sh1t duct taped down. hehe.

I'm all for the new rules. But you are right... The results won't be known until we see if they are still calling penalties come April.

Exactly. It sounded good 4-5 years ago too, but it didn't happen.

I can not wait for the Wings to drop the puck and start kicking ass again. I'm just glad Drury is out of Colorado. He is a murderer in the playoffs.

I agree. I would hate to have face Drury. He always see to get the back breaking goals....

On the other hand, Blake and Morris is a pretty intimidating defense pairing (so is Morris and Foote or Foote and Blake). Colorado has managed to shore up their defense in the trade (and not give up too much offense). I think this makes Colorado more dangerous than they were last year.....

Ya, the loss of Drury suxors for us Avs fans but we always seem to have guys that step up after these big trades we make. We were pi$$ed off when we lost Deadmarsh but Blake helped us get the cup! hopefully we will get the same results this year ;).

The Avs definitely needed some help on the blue line. And while Drury is certainly a clutch playoff performer, they could've done much worse in this trade. I think they are a better team overall, after the trade.

Cujo has looked really sharp in the preseason. Time will tell.

It's kinda funny not holding your breath every time your goalie handles the puck.

Some of the obstruction looks very tame, but I'll judge it latter on like others have said.

Oh, and BTW-wait 'til you guys get a load of Detroit's rookies :D

I don't think the new obstruction rules will slide because the NHL brought GM's, coaches and refs together in Toronto and said this is a penalty, this is not a penalty, they will be called and ALL refs will be supervised and if they miss a call they will have to watch the tape of the missed call AND multiple infractions could lead to suspension or termination. Coaches/GM's have preached to their players that this will be called ALOT and they need to make sure they cut down on it.

Now I'm just waiting for olympic sized rinks :)

Caps got Grier today, makes them a little tougher. But I think Devils will be in the Finals this year! And I will also be at the home opener for them! GO DEVILS! WHOO HOO!!!

P.s.-think the NHL will really crack down on the obstruction penalities?

Hmm, they will for awhile, but halfway through the season they slack off. That's the way it seems to work, unfortunetly.

Don't hold your breath. To enlarge the ice, they'd have to remove seats... It won't be happening in this lifetime.

True, but on the same token, a larger ice surface produces more offense which fans wouldn't mind seeing... maybe that would put more @$$e$ in the seats per game to make up for it. Every night is not nearly a sell-out anyway.

Depends on the stadium. I know Toronto is sold out more often than not.

Yup, the larger rink would be nice, but Wingnut is right, the NHL bigwigs won't do it. :(
