I was thinking about re-setting up our 40 gallon at home, and wanted to put some ferocious fish in there, i.e. I want to see a slaughter fest on feeder fish. Anyone have ideas besides Oscars?

Pirahna, cichlids.....just about anything territorial and carnivorous.

oscars are gluttons, they'll swallow fish whole until they can't move.
pirahnas are ferocious,they'll literally rip the fish to shreds with their teeth.
arrowana's are stalkers, they like to sneak up and strike at fish like a poisonous snake.

If you want ferocious, I'd go with pirahnas. Everything else swallows things whole and its kinda boring after a while.

40 is too small for most carnivarous fish (Even Oscars)

I like Arrowana's but they look best in longish tanks 6ft +

well for fresh water id get an cichlid, they eat fish til they are about to pop and if its a big fish it will bite on the scales and the fish will look naked. I had this saltwater fish that had teeth he was awesome, tho he died after about 3 months
