Hobbies/skills

Hey everyone.. Often when i get bored of the routineness of life I pick up a new hobby/skill (such as bass guitar, writing music, or whatever)... well ive hit that spot and I want a new hobby (not related to music would be a nice change) or just something new to do..... Dont want to spend a great deal of money on it, just want to learn some new stuff.

Any suggestions?

Im going to bed.... just wanted to bump this and will probably bump it again tomorrow since it seems ATOT is dead tonight... night

TIG welders are cheap????

What planet are you from? 😛

Anyway, I collect and restore antique single cylinder air cooled small engines. 😀

I actually haven't been very active in the hobby lately.. It's more of a winter thing. It's fun to go out to a nice warm shop on a short, cold winter day and build an engine up. 🙂

My oldest (and only that I've truely restored so far) is a Briggs and Stratton Model Y built in Febuary 1931. In its previous life, it served as a humble washing machine engine.

It was in pretty good shape when I got it. Just needed to be freshened up. Whoever owned it before took good care of it, and it saw a lot of use. Cylinder wear was .005! Compression was only ~45psi due to that an a very worn exhaust valve. It still started and ran good, though it smoked bad.

The plain bearings' babbit was completely gone on the PTO bearing. Locating a replacement bushing was a PITA. Heh..

Here are some other pics of running but not fully restored engines..

On a serious note, I think soldering is a good skill to learn.

Soldering is a useful skill/hobby to learn, it has come in handy many times and made a few bucks on the side modifying Playstations and dreamcast units.
