I have my tbird 1ghz overclocked to 1.2 Ghz. I have it running at 1.55 volts which keeps it at 38 degrees even when working in 3ds max and encoding divx for 3 hours(thats a torture test!). Now, even with the voltage way up, I can only overclock to like 1.23 or 1.24 Ghz. Why is this, that I can run perfectly stable at 1.2 at extremely low voltage and temperatures, but I can barely go beyond that, from looking at the data at 1.2 Ghz, this would look like a killer chip, but anything beyond that, it runs hot, requires lots of voltage and dosnt go very high. What could be going on here, and are there any solutions to get me past this barrier?

I have a Taisol 760 with Dual Fans on it.
1.0 Tbird
MSI K7T Pro-2a
good case cooling

1.2ghz, 1.55 Volts full load 38 degrees stable
1.24Ghz 1.55 Volts full load 39 degrees stable
1.24Ghz Max voltage full load 54 degrees stable

Could be a lot of things:

a) what stepping t-bird. Yes there are killer 1 gig t-birds, but there are also some duds. The stepping can be found on the CPU core, should be

A1000AMS3C
YYYYYXXXXXX
Z XXXXXXX

Y is your stepping, and the Z is also helpful in determining how fast you can go. Z will either be a letter or a number.

b) what's your PSU rated? You may have upped your Vcore setting, but your PSU may not be providing a clean enough flow of juice or just not enough juice period.

c) what multipliers/fsb settings are you using? Your CPU may not like higher multipliers, or your ram and timings may not be able to handle high fsb speeds. If you are going high on the FSB side, your northbridge may need some better cooling as well. PCI/AGP components will also limit your FSB settings as well as your ram timings.

Your temps look OK, I would look further into your PSU and multi/fsb settings.

It is an antec 303px or somthing like that for the PS. It is AMD aproved 300watts.

I know that I can handle 117 FSB. I can overclock either way, with the multiplier or the FSB, each limits me to about 1240 or so.

If I tried unhooking some components could I get more juice and see if it would be worthwile to get a different PS?

I would check your stepping....a 240mhz OC is pretty good, and unless you have one of the killer AXIA steppings for the 1 gig (or the yet unconfirmed results of the AYHJAR steppings), you may have reached your ceiling. I'm not sure if your board is a 100mhz fsb or 133, but if it is a 100mhz (200mhz Athlon), I've read of problems with the fsb over like 110 or something like that. If you can't push the multiplier any more than what you are doing, you may have reached the ceiling for that mobo.
