Hmmmmm......... i'm a tad stumped... HELP?

OK..so IPCOFIG show an address...unless it starts with 169, or unless you statically created one, you probable are receiving the adress via DHCP.

Does IPCONFIG /ALL show you your DNS servers?

Can you PING your DNS servers ? Can you ping your Gateway ?

Yes, it is using DHCP, and yes I see the gateway and domain and everything

i didn't try pinging though, because i just forgot to

Okay, I had her ping her gateway, and it's timing out.

What's the problem? She has a real IP address with the correct DNS Suffix and IP address, but it doens't look like she can ping anything

Win 9x seems to like to not release properly. release IP then reboot usually fixes this.

also, try your card in her laptop and her card in your laptop.

disconnect the computer and don't connect anything on that port, 5+ minutes later, connect and try her computer again and see if you have any better luck... some network hardware doesn't like mac addresses changing really quickly.

Okay... to make sure that the ping test is true (basic TCP/IP functioning correctly), trying pinging "loopback"

ping 127.0.0.1

That should get you four replies. That's showing you that Client for MS Networks is installed and working properly. That shows you that TCP/IP is installed and working properly (for the most part).

If that works, try pinging her own IP address (the IP that is assigned to the computer via DHCP). The packets don't actually leave the computer, so you should get ping times <0 or something like that - the same results of pinging loopback.

All those tests work properly, now what?
