I recently borrowed the ethernet cord from my GF's laptop. When I was taking it out, i accidently removed the card with it and just plugged it back in.

I guess she's claiming that her internet connection isn't working at all now. It's fine in her device manager, I even told her to uninstall it and have it reinstall by itself after rebooting, whcih she did. But still no go.

I don't know any other way to troubleshoot the thing.

What should I do?

If the Device Manager is reporting that the card is installed and operating properly, try checking the ip settings to see if the machine is getting a correct ip address.

Does she have PCMCIA start/stop device icon on the toolbar? If so, have her double click it and see if the device is "started".

No, I don't believe there is one.

I had a bad cable one time. It drove me crazy because the lights on the card would be on, but it would never connect. Finally tried a different ethernet cable and all is fine. Maybe that could be it.

There should be a PCMCIA icon in the Control Panel. Opens the same window as the toolbar icon, IIRC.

Check the PCMCIA icon in the control panel. If it says your card is runing, but you get no IP, you either have a bad card or a bad cord. Check them both on another machine, if available. You may have hosed the card by pulling it out while running, though...

She claims not to have that option in the Control Panel....

i'm not sure, i haven't looked at the machine yet. What are the chances of the card actually getting hosed by pulling it out?

Is she plugged directly into her cable modem? If so, try refreshing it before trying to get a new IP address.

So I just did an IPCONFIG on her system and she gets an IP address fine..... and the lights on the ethernet card all indicate it's a go....

and i'm posting this from my laptop hooked up to the same connection, so it's no the wire.

Could it be her DNS Server or something?

Help! I'm stumped

Hmm. You've already reinstalled the drivers for it and done quite a bit.

This may require a post in the TS forum.
