Just got this email...

Dear Adelphia Power Link Customer,

We value your business and understand that many of you have an increasing
appetite for online content, email and all the benefits of our high-speed
internet service. We were pleased to announce last week that we will be
increasing the speeds available to our Power Link high-speed internet customers
to up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads and up to 256 kilobytes-per-second
uploads. Your Power Link pricing will not change as a result of this service
enhancement!

To facilitate this exciting change for Power Link customers, there are some
upgrades required in the Adelphia network. While we do not expect these
changes to have an impact to the vast majority of customers, some customers may
be impacted. If you are impacted, you may experience higher than normal wait
times on the Technical Support line. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We expect to have the network upgrades complete by October 15, 2003.

Thank you in advance for your patience while we work to deliver this exciting
service enhancement.

Sincerely,

Adelphia Communications

I only wish they didn't charge so much for non cable subscribers... :(

:)

Edit:

Thank god they got that all that new fiber installed in my town before they went bankrupt...

"up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads"

I know they mean megabits, but funny thing is I've been getting five megabit downloads since day one. The 256k upload is nice though. :) I was rather surprised when I got the e-mail today. I figured they'd never raise the upload speed.

Heh, I just dumped adelphia last month for DSL. Where I live, I was lucky to see 30k/s downloads. I think something was just fundamentally flawed with them here.

Yeah, right before they went bankrupt, they came into my town and spent gobs of $$$ to lay a whole new fiber backbone, and layed all new lines to the houses as well. It's probably why I was paying ~$55 for "extended basic" consisting of a whopping 58 channels...but Direct TV fixed that. ;)

I'm lucky they are available though as the phone backbone kinda sucks in my town, and since I'm like 4.5 miles from the switch, DSL is out. It's weird, they service like two or three towns in NH, but the remainder of the area is all Comcast.

cable is a highly shared service....if you are lucky and live where usage is minor you'll get unbelevable speeds.

DSL is also problematic if you have alot of uploading along your 'path' for lack of a better term.

Fortunately, most ppl are leeches and it's all about sucking down than pushing up.

I get 500K connects with DSL....I had 1.5 about two years ago. Peer to Peer 1.5 is cool, but most websites and the like you will never see that....however if you have a lot of multiple downloads or sharing the connection the 1.5Mbps makes more of a difference.

You have a strange view of the web... :p

I pull my maximum, 215k/sec(1766mbps) from many places...

It's just that most web pages aren't even 215k, so.. lol

It depends on the backbone that 1766mbps is coming off of too. However most pages aren't 215k is right ;)
