Hmmm, why do our highschools have all these "social classes"?

Yea theres the goths, jocks, skaters, posers, punk rockers, drama club, geeks, and loners

Why do we classify each other as such? And then why do some people add to their stereotype by dressing rather absurdly with paperclip earrings, patches paperclipped onto their clothes, and guys wearing make-up?

Yes i understand it adds to the diversity of this "melting pot", but still, whats the point? (responses from oldtimers who went to highschool during the 50s-60s preferred)

Yea, but you also have the normal poeple :) I fit into almost every group, so I consider myself to be an all around guy :)

i don't think most people think about it... it's not like they do things thinking "oh, i want to be seen as a nerd" or something. it just happens.

Dont forget the Hackie sack guys, the guy who stands alone and stares at the wall, the magic card guys, bad smoker kids in the back parkin lot, the scraps and gangsters in the "hardcore hall".....


heh we usedto have all the mexican scraps hang out at one tree at our school, the tree had like gang stuff carved all over it..then like one day they choopped down the tree and there was a fire hydrant there...lol....they still to this day stand there...the cool guy gets to sit on the hydrant :)...

social classes at my school:
Italians
Jocks
@ssholes
Nerds
Loners
Skaters
My diverse group

the Italians are Italians
jocks are football/hockey players and wrestlers
@ssholes are the guys who dress like they have money but they don't and they wear those stupid 3" heal boots which make them look retarded - the girls like this group of guys for the sole reason that they are in fact @ssholes
nerds are the guys who like immature stuff like pokemon and talk about hard core console video games
loners are just that
skaters skate and smoke weed
my group consists of the kids who play lower class hockey (B league which is not great but not bad either) a few non hard core skaters and the sub-nerds such as me and this other kid.

heh yeah i guess u can call me an urban youth..well sorta...thats not the point...at school people dont go around worrying what "clik" their in .... well just the posers i guess..but nevermind bout thm, most kids dont give a crap, just the few who seem to overanalize crap...just hang out with the people, not group, that suits u best....like me i hang around some people from the cool filipino crowed, a white guy, a chines guy, and a mexican guy....and im indian....(most expect me to be in that weird smelly fob crowed but i stay away from them...lol)...just hang out with people u like...

ok this is why it sort of bothers me, EACH of these "classes" thinks they are better than all the other classes, and personally see to it

The goths, skaters, punk rockers, and posers are constantly talking sh!t

The jocks are beating everyone up

The geeks and loners think to themselves that they are better than everyone else

I'm quite interested on how this started, on how guys got fascinated over putting makeup on their face, on how posers are constantly singing/rapping/dancing/breaking..

I graduated in 1961.
The names have changed, the cliques really haven't.
We had 'rocks', jocks, motorheads, debate team, chess club and the geeks were always on the 'AV team', running the projectors for assemblies.
