Hmmm, what gun to buy...

I really wanted to pick up a WASR-10 and some mags but the prices since Nov 4th have absolutely skyrocketed and they are becoming scarce. I'm not paying $700 for a $300-400 rifle. I'll either wait for prices to come back down or never own one.

I already own:

Sig P226 40 S&W
Sig P220
Glock 19
Some really old 1890's 38 S&W revolver
Walther P1
S&W 916
RRA AR-15
M1 Garand
Mosin Nagant
Enfield 303
Ruger 10/22
German Mauser
Turkish Mauser
Yugo SKS

But what should I get? :) Remember that I'm a collector as much as a shooter.

I only have one shotgun, and it's not super high quality. I wouldn't mind a new revolver, a sig mosquito would be fun, more surplus rifles would be great for the collection since they will become more rare. Same with the few surplus handguns that exist.

You may wish to check in to that.

Yeah, I'd have to read and compare to the mosquito. Definitely cheap ammo, and a great tool to teach new shooters.

Nice collection! I'd love to have the Kraut Mauser.

My buddy picked up a Springfield M1911 at a gun show for about $600. They had some WW2 ones that were $2000-3000. :Q

If I got a 1911 it'd be a rock island arsenal. Cheap in price and shoots just fine. My bro-in-law has one.

The german mauser has a few little nazi war eagles stamped on it. Still have not fired it, but glad to have it.

Wow, how much did that run you?

My friend also has a Civil War musket his brother picked up in Afghanistan for $100. Get 6 of those and make yourself some money. :p

I didn't realize WASR-10's were going for $700 now. That's crazy. They used to be under $300 when I first started looking.

Seems like you need a good shotgun. You might be able to score a Remington 11-87 for around $600 if look hard enough.

I've definitely eyed these on aimsurplus. Have not read a ton about them though.

get a 44 or 357 magnum revolver, you need a good hand cannon

Yeah, a s&w 686 6" has been holding my attention for a long time. Then down the road I'd want a 38 detective of some sort.

I want to say that I paid about $220 for it, but I honestly can't remember.

They have literally evaporated with the economic crisis/election. You could get one anywhere for $300-350 before.

NHM91s are still around $600. Most people don't label them as AK47s so they sneak by. You can also get Norinco Sporters for around $600. Picked up an "as new" NHM with custom fancy wood for $550 earlier.

I cannot recommend Taurus enough.

My wife had a .357 snub nose and I have a 9mm (24/7 pro model) and both are excellent guns and very reasonable prices.

Does this mean the price for the higher end AK's have gone up as well?

The last gun I bought was a Beretta Over/Under 20 gauge shotgun. I've shot clays with it a few times and I'd have to say that it's my favorite gun I own right now. Such a nice gun, great build quality, points naturally and isn't punishing to shoot at all.

It's about twice your budget though.

That or a S&W Model 629. I have that gun as well with 8" barrel and it is one of my favorites as well.

Yes. Some Arsenals have been selling for over $2k

Yea, it seems to have nudged up the pricing on those too a good amount.

Even the Yugo SKSs seem to have vanished and are now fetching almost 3 times what I paid for mine on the auction sites.

I just picked up (in a trade) a post war A1 .30 Carbine. Sweet little gun. Look for a WWII one since you don't have one.

I have a different suggestion than a new gun -

Stock up on high capacity magazines for your glock, AR, Sig, etc. That, and ammo.

I have the sig mosquito, and while it is fun to shoot with and without my gemtech outback II suppressor, I would rather have a ruger or a buckmark. Mosquito is VERY picky on ammo. Pretty much have to shoot CCI mini-mags or subsonics if I don't want it to jam.

I've been looking at them as well. They look mean as hell, I like the Dragunov style stock.

They're running closer to $800 however, and I'm having a hard time bringing myself to pay that much for a glorified AK-47 which from everything I've read isn't really all that accurate and has problems with heat and throwing shots out to about 8 or 10 MOA after a few mags.
