lol I dunno, if I were to really do a project like this, I'd end up spending 10k or more.. but I'd have a nice sleeper Bug.. 😀

Hmm.. Well, I changed my the oil and plugs in my Dad's PU today.. LOL. I'd like to consider myself fairly proficient. I collect and restore antique single cylinder air-cooled small engines(link, 3/4 of the way down).

As far as the engine, the old flat4 air-cooled VW engine is about as simple as it gets.. I've never built one, but I don't think I would have any problems with a good book and all the parts infront of me. 🙂

A turnkey 2110CC is 3800$+, at least on eBay.

I would enjoy setting it up on a stand and tuning it though. I could probably tinker with it for a month before I ever put it into a vehicle. 😉
