So I go this Inspiron laptop brand new and I installed SiSoft Sandra 2009 on it and started to go throught the deeper information of this thing. It is running a 667Mhz bus altough Sandra stated it had DDR2 800 in it (2 modules) and the motherboard info stated that the max FSB was 800. So you know what I'm getting at. It has a 2.16ghz proc in it. Anyone think they're would be a way to run it higher if it is indeed capable of it? The CPU may not be able to take it and I didn't see any way to adjust the FSB in the BIOS, thought I'm not sure I was in the "actual BIOS" if you know what I mean - I hit the F2 setup key at startup like it showed on the startup screen but it didn't seem like it was the rea BIOS. Though the specs say its a T3400 Pentium Dual Core (1MB cache), Sandra AND PCWizard listed it as a Core2 Duo. Hmmmm, I wonder what thats' about. Anyway, I really like the machine, and I'm not in any hurry to muck it up, but if anyone has any tips or tricks, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Where its at is where its at. The bios offers no means for increasing the RAM speed. There is a good possibility that Sandra isn't getting the right information.

BTW the T3400 is a Core 2 Duo. Its a Mobile C2D.

i doubt you'd see much, if any gains by going from 667 to 800. not to mention battery life would probably lower as a result

Ok, it was worth a shot. Can't blame an AT'er for trying to squeak out as much as they can from a system. LOL.

You could try clockgen, or do a pin mod. But about all you really will do is make the battery drain faster.

The chipset can handle the higher FSB offered by some of the other Intel mobile processors, but your processor's maximum FSB is 667MHz. The most you can go for is either one of those pin mods or just change out the CPU for a Core 2 mobile processor instead of the Pentium Dual Core.

Assuming the chipset supports the 800mhz FSB and you put in a processor that has an 800MHz FSB, yes, it will automatically change.

Do note: changing out the processor voids any warranty you have on the machine. And is it really worth it? What are you doing with this machine that you need the extra FSB and the larger L2 cache that would come with one of the Core 2 Duo processors?
