Hmmm... is a Bachelor of Science in Econ worth an extra class?

Orsorum

Lifer
If I drop this extra class this winter, I would be able to drop one of my classes Autumn quarter and take it winter quarter, thereby allowing me to work 30 hours a week, gaining some extra experience and a little extra scratch.

I've already finished the Bachelor of Arts degree requirements, I'm finishing up my business degree requirements right now (accounting). I'm not planning on any future studies in Economics.

Is it worth an extra course for the B.S.?

Cheers!
Nate

well it really depends on what kind of work you'd be doing... if it's something that can significantly further your career, and you can't take the job if you don't drop the class, then i'd drop the class. otherwise, i think it's worth it to get a BS over a BA... one class is no biggie.

There really is no difference in how a BA is looked at vs BS (I have a BA in bio because my school did not offer BS) but if it is one class, why not? Though the experience will probably be more useful when you are looking for a job...

So, you have a BA, which is good to wipe one's ass with, and you want to know if you should do a smidgen of extra work for a BS in Economics? I knew they didn't teach much in arts, but I didn't know that little 😉

we didn't have a BS program at UT, so i couldn't tell you any benefits

skoorb will die.

You probably will get more "use" jobwise from a(n) (undergraduate) BA Accounting degree. Undergraduate Econ degrees whether BA or BS are a dime a dozen. Are you sure you have no aspirations for a graduate degree where such a distinction, with all things being equal, might make a difference in being accepted or rejected?

EDIT- However im not sure I am reading your post correctly. Are you getting the same title for the degree emphasis, with the difference being it can be a BA or a BS? If that is the case, a BS might be worth it if you come across someone/or some entity at a later date who can appreciate the subtle differences between BA/BS degrees.

I'm getting either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Economics. I'm applying to law school right now and planning on an MBA program in six or seven years.

more is better!!!

I think I'm getting two degrees anyways, as I'm getting a business degree and a degree from the college of arts and sciences.

I really don't think it'll make any difference.. you're not going to try and get a job (other than the one you could have if you don't take that extra class) with those degrees anyway, they're just steppingstones to more degrees which are the ones people are gonna be looking at when they go to hire you.. and that work experience will be worth more than that initial on the 2nd undergrad degree.. in my opinion, of course.

Do employers really look at if you have a BS vs a BA? Do most really know the difference between a BS and BA? I have a BS in MIS, but there wasn't an BA option, so I got that by default I guess.

In your case though since it isn't going to take much to just get the BS, I would just go for it.
