Hmmm, got a flat tire. Anything I should take notice of?

Bloody van got a flat tire. I put in the spare tire in myself and all just fine, but it's my first time so I just want to make sure that theres not something that I don't know.

It's a van.. 17" tires I believe. It's a full size spare.

I need to get home and thats about 40 miles freeway about. Do I need to worry about anything? Can I drive at a my usual speed seeing as its a full size spare? Or should I go slower since alignment is probably somewhat stuff and all.

fix it

Do not speed on the spare tire, do ride in the far right lane where you can go slow.

Just make sure you get your new tire ASAP as a spare is just that, a spare. You can't supposed to ride on it forever or until it blows up.

If the spare is the same size as the regular tires, drive normally, check the tire pressure before doing so.

yeah keep your hazard lights on and go very slow

those tires are not made to go fast (duh..)

but then again, if you have wireless laptop in your van , you should be able to afford it 😛

Well naturally I'm going to get it fixed, but just wanted to make sure I can get home on it first or if I need to change it ASAP.

Hmm, good note on the tire pressure, imma go check it out. Thanks for the info, thats why I posted this. 🙂

And everyone is telling me to drive a lot slower, but doesn't a full size spare allow you to go fairly normal speed? I thought it was only for those mini spares that you drive slow on?

What part of this sentence don't you understand ?

This is not a space saver spare.

Read my post, if it is a full size spare, drive normally, if it is a space saver, max speed is 50 M.P.H.

(By the way, full size vans do not carry space saver spares because they cannot support the weight)

eh, I drove around on my spare for 2 weeks (it was one of those little tiny ones). just drive sensably (55mph tops) and you'll be alright.

btw, the replaced tire i got broke two days later, drove on it for a week as well (was pretty scary though, shaking vigorously and all)

Yeah, I read your post but all those differing opinions so I just wanted to make sure. 🙂 I naturally thought I could go normal speed as my post implied but don't want to be wrong. Thanks.

I remember when we bought this car, my dad specifically chose this specific one because it had a full-size spare tire.

But I remember the other one NOT havning a full-size though. 😕 What kind of spare would it have been then? (I'm about 99% sure it was not a full-size spare).

Reduced size spare, not a space saver, a space saver can be identified by the markings on the sidewall, it will state ;

Do not exceed 50 M.P.H. for more than 100 miles

I guess some people just don't understand " FULL SIZE " spare..

btw fixing that flat tire should be no more than 5 bucks unless the side wall is ripped or something.

then you'd have to replace it 🙂
