Hadn't really occurred to me when I ordered it, but it may just be possible to do UT on my laptop. ;)

I ordered a PIII 600E with Rage Mobility 128 16 MB and 15" TFT monitor. It actually performs as well in 16-bit as the desktop version of the TNT2. I wonder how much ghosting there'll be, though. Can't wait. :) I wonder if I can overclock the GPU and memory on that sucker. :p

Who else games with a laptop?

I LAN'ed with a dude that had a similar setup

worked pretty good for him.

I couldn't stand it, but then again, I'm a spoiled little framerate bitch, heh.....

My dad's got a laptop with a 500E and Rage Mobility, it got 670 '3D Marks' :p, but I played 10six (god that game sucked) with it once, it ran pretty well, untill you got into a large battle, but that's the way it was with that damn game. I think my dad used to play Half-Life on it, but I'm not sure.

I would play games on it, but my dad gets pissed whenever I install something large on it.

I think it shares the memory with the system, so overclocking the memory would be overclocking the whole system, and I don't think any moble laptops have FSB options :(.

If you can wait for a couple of months, I believe that VIA is going to be making laptop chipset that will include the Savage 2000 GPU. That could make serious laptop gaming a reality.

Savage? Ewwwww

GeForce2 MX and ATI Radeon are both coming to the laptop market very shortyl. Less than 2 months away.

I don't think so. For some of these computers and chipsets, it costs extra to get 32 vs. 16 vs. 8 MB for RAM. I do know however, that some of the cheaper chipsets you can use up to 32 MB, but that memory is shared. Not good for 3D speed though.

As for waiting, I don't want to. I don't really plan on gaming with this thing. That's just a bonus. I am more impressed by the very good DVD support it has, since the laptop will have DVD. :) For gaming I already have an adequate system (see sig - not great, but good enough in 16 bit), and that may improve to include a Radeon if I can get my hands on a cheap engineering sample.

I have a couple friends that linked their laptops and played UT their entire flight.

Beats the hell out of a cheesy movie. Heh, last flight I was on, I was "treated" to reruns of Will and Grace. :p

Yeah, the Rage mobility has verry good DVD decoding. I've watched a few DVDs on it using PowerDVD (I think, may have been a different program). It was really nice, good quality, no artifacts, no skiped frames.
