Hmm, you learn something new every day, FedEx Ground drivers own their own trucks?

A new family just moved next to parents, and two of the residents are FedEx drivers. Since my dad works for UPS (mechanic), he got to talking to them the other day about the companies. Apparently FedEx Ground drivers are all independent contractors that own and insure their own trucks, and get paid by package volume, not hourly wage. I had no idea it was like this. Big contrast to UPS drivers who are UPS employees and teamster backed. I guess that explains a bit about the service.

I use to work for RPS which was bought out by fedex about 5 years ago. All the drivers were and still are independent contractors who own the routes and get paid by the package. All they did was change the name from RPS to Fedex Ground and repainted their trucks.

Are you talking about the semi-truck drivers? Because I have a couple of friends that work for FedEx as delivery drivers and are paid hourly wage. I can see the semi-truck drivers as contract workers because a lot of semi-truck drivers that drive across country are contract and paid by package volume.

No, the package truck drivers, specifically FedEx Ground package truck drivers.

I believe the FexEx Custom Critical drivers are also independent.

I can't see all those delivery drivers buying Dodge Sprinters (Well, whatever Freightliner calls the Sprinter). They're definitely too unreliable to not be some corporate purchase.

Your opinion is irrelevant and has been proven so on many occasions.

Exactly. Unions are good why?
Because they keep halfwits, morons, and thoes who couldn't normally hold a job, employed and off welfare.

I was under the impression that this was the purpose of an opinion - someone's personal thought on a topic, whether or not they have any influence over it (thus making them irrelevant in most circumstances)
