Hmm whats with those giant oversized scsi drives that are cheap? Are they faster then say ata100 7200rpm ide drives? Why are they so big, why are they so cheap? Wouldnt it make sense to just buy those if they are faster and just put em in ur full tower case?

looks like a really old drive.

it's a full bay, and 5.25" too, so it's pretty much the size of 2 CD-ROM drives stacked on top of each other (a CD-ROM drive is a half-height drive)

i did a search in google for "ST4464452W" and only 2 sites listed it.

the sucker is ultra-SCSI Wide. It's slower than ata100.

holy crap, there are "14 discs" which means 14 platters. holy crap, i may get one just to take it apart and play.

I used to own a pair of 9GB drives like this.

Cons: They are loud, slow, and generate a lot of heat.
Pros: They last virtually forever, they can take a real beating and keep on going, they are great for really old systems that cant handle IDE drives over 2, 6, or 8 Gigs

hmm...still 47GB, might just get a few & use them for my file server. Just too bad they are full-height 5.25" drives, I'd have to get an external case for them or something. Maybe if they were REALLY cheep & not still $40 (maybe $20 or so).

Buy this case And you'll not have a problem.

Question. How do these compare in speed to a new ata100 drive? Sh1y $40 I might buy 2 and raid 0.

These are Server Class/Enterprise SCSI Drives and while they might not be as fast as ATA100 they will definbately last longer than the average IDE Drive. Great for storage. I would definately use something else for my boot drive though.

$340 for 282 GB (RAID5) Storage, not counting SCSI adaptor. Hmm...Tempting, too bad I don't have $400 to spend on this.

Wow This site is incredible on thier deals
They just had a Parking lot sale last weekend where the prices were even lower.

Beware, they kind of stick it to you on shipping though they do pack their items well for shipping.

As the former owner of a Micropolis 1991 that was a 9.1GB SCSI HD from 1992. I gotta say this: They are big, hot, slow, and as reliable as you can get. If you're in a cold climate and you need alot of storage that won't fail GET THESE DRIVES. If you're hot and you need the data to transfer really fast, keep looking.
