hmm? trying to network 2 winXP computers..

both win XP with all the updates.

sharing is enabled, firewall on xp enabled for sharing. router firewall off.

I am able to see folders on each other's computers but when I try to access it, it asks me for password. when I try simple sharing enabled, it says I dont have access, wont even ask for password.. hmm?

Simple Sharing uses the Guest account which is disabled as of SP2. So since you don't have the same user account on both computers it wants to know the account (which must have a password) of the computer you are trying to connect to.

What I would do is create a User for file sharing on both computers, with the same name and password. Then use that NFS-User to share the files.

both computers are setup with a single user and no password ..

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared.
