I was just about to post a thread about this.
You should rename this the Play Station Phone.
Will attract much more attention.
I'm getting one.

Very very cool. Would be perfect for emulators. The thing that would hold this back is if the battery life is not good. We know Android phones can get good battery life (Droid X) but it seems most are not making that their #1 priority and this being a phone and a game player, it'll need good battery life.

Cool idea and there's probably a solid market for it. If they make it backwards compatible w/ current PSP downloadable games + a new app store I think it should do well enough. As said before, emulators were pretty big on the original PSP and I think the same would hold here.

Not sure what's going on in the middle of that thing though... are those like dual analog PADS or something? That might be a small issue.

Put on a NES and Snes emulator and you've got some serious gaming going on. GBA too.
16GB memory card holds a lot of ROMs.

To get good battery life you need to dedicate a lot of the device's space to a battery and pair it with chips that draw a fraction of watt per hour. The DS (being the gold standard for modern battery life) has something like a 3.7Wh battery and is rated for 10+ hours. Meanwhile the PSP has a larger battery (4.4Wh or so) and lasts half as long; and the PSP is still slow enough that it would suck wind at smartphone tasks.

The notion of a gaming device and a smartphone are still mutually incompatible; the high performance chips people expect in a smartphone aren't well suited for a constant load, and that's what gaming is.

So now that they are finally allowing us to have camera phones at work I can see a new ban coming in our future... no phones with slide-out gaming controls.

single touchpad with multitouch!

Don't pay attention to the ROM...everything I have read said this is just a prototype and isn't loaded with all its goodies yet. This was mostly to show off hardware.

Thing is even going to have access to the Sony Store to download games.

I think I'd prefer it to have nubs. Hope it turns out well, would make for a nice combo.
