I think that a lot of his has to due with the profit margins on computers getting so razor thin. In order to stay afloat you have sell tons of them, or cut the number of people that you have. Both directly affect how well you can take care of customers.

Where did they get this "Legendary Service" from Dell from?

They must be referring to the corporate side of their business because as a consumer customer of Dell's I'd have to rate them as bad as Gateway's. I've had some nightmare stories with Dell customer "satisfaction". Micron has always been the best for me.
