Hmm..perhaps it's Bios but this new 30GB laptop drive isn't being detected by my laptop...anyone?

It's a rather old P200 MMX but other than possible BIOS not supporting it, I can't get it to detect the drive. The old 2GB drive works fine.

It's a 30GB IBM travelstar 4200RPM 2.5" hard drive set to master.
I connect it via IDE and start the machine up...
BIOS detects nothing upon IDE detection and going into BIOS to auto detect won't work.

There are no other options other than 'enable master' and 'disable master' as well as 'enable PIO mode' and 'disable PIO.' I've tried all combinations to no avail.

I can't even use fdisk to see the drive so I'm pretty much stumped at this point.

Anyone have any suggestions? It's a generic laptop without a brand name nor a model # so I can't located a BIOS update either. Bummer!

My old K6-380MHz laptop would only see a 6.3GB drive, no more.

Therefore, sorry to say, but you may be out of luck if the BIOS won't support more than a 2/4gb drive.

Unless you can find ANY numbers on it, and google them, you may be out of luck.
