Ok, this is driving me a little batty. Kid complained today that she was off the Internet. Checked it out and the wireless was disconnected. Tried to refresh and didn't see the network, so I restarted. After restart was able to see the network and connect. Adapter shows connected, signal strength low.

Thing is, DHCP works fine. IPCONFIG shows the correct local address, DHCP server, DNS server, etc. Release and renew works. But the machine can't connect to any of the others on the home network, can't see their names, and can't ping them by IP. It also can't ping the router by IP. Other clients also cannot see her machine by name or IP. I've tried it with windows firewall on and off.

Anything else worth checking?

She's running Windows XP SP2. None of the other systems on the network (5) are having problems. Router is up. All other systems can see and ping each other, but not hers.

I can't figure out why release/renew would work, but I can't get a TCP/IP connection. The adapter shows healthy and connected, with traffic. Protocols are all in and correctly configured.

Is the IP she got assigned blocked on the router's ACL?
Also make sure she's associated w/ the right WAP.

Yeah, she is connected to the right network, according to the SSID. The router blocks her MAC from accessing the Internet, but there is no firewall rule to keep her from accessing the internal addresses. I'll try disabling the MAC filter tomorrow just to see if it makes a difference, but her sister is running off the same rule with no problems. Both of those machines us ccproxy on my system for Internet access.

It's easier to enforce time limits and some keyword filtering and domain blocking with ccproxy than with the router, which always seemed hit or miss on that stuff. It's also easier to create profiles for the kids, who range in age from 9 to 13, so the 9 year-old has different time limits than the 13 year-old, for example. The router is set to deny access to the Internet for their mac addresses, and they have their connections pointed to the proxy on my machine. Works great.
