Hmm. Lexar 128 MB SD holds more than it should. (Now with pics!)

So this Secure Digital memory card I'm using in my camera is currently holding 152 pictures at maximum quality, with space for 41 more. The camera manual (it's a Kodak DX6340) says that a 128 MB card should hold 131 pics at best quality.

Now, it also says that 128 MB will store 194 pics at "better" quality, but I always have the "best" option selected.

Not that I'm complaining or anything, but it's interesting.

You do realise that those are just guidelines, right? The digital pictures that I've taken have ranged between 350KB and 650KB in 2MP "Fine" (Fuji's equivalent of "best"). The number of pictures listed in the manual assumes a certain fixed size per picture.

Remember that 41 more is probably just a best guess.

Are you talking pictures of things with a lot of solid colours?

An all white picture at the same resolution will take up way less space than a picture of a very detailed item

Yeah, but I didn't expect it to be off by 62 pics, you know? That seems like a lot to me, especially considering all pics are in full color (not B&W or duotone modes).

By and large, no, though looking through what's currently stored there's not a lot of extremely complex ones.

You're being stupid. Fill your camera up, download all the pics into a folder, then look at the bottom to see how much space the files are taking up. Tada! 128MB or thereabouts.
