so I have a few years old 2.5" SATA HD inside my laptop - Win 7

recently I noticed that I could not copy some files from it - just got stuck :/

so I tried to copy of the entire drive > 4TB external

and every time it just would get stuck and OS would get stuck

I tried doing a disk scan / fix errors on BOOT

and even there it gets stuck on 48% - indefinitely - just hangs!! - every time -

what tools can I use to fix it?
or at least get the data off of it?

thank you !!

Well, you should be using ddrecue to clone the drive to another drive, never work on the original.
Then, you can try various recovery software like testdisk or whatever else.
If still no luck, you spend a ton of $$$ to give the original drive to the pros.

Show us the SMART data if possible. CrystalDiskInfo is a Windows application that can read SMART data.

ddrescue is the best suggestion really, if you are serious about the data. Right now, you already used chkdsk so a lot of damage to your files is likely to have happened already. This cannot be undone. You should have secured the SMART and made a raw backup before having tried chkdsk.
