Hmm how long should I wait before I see a doc for...

...this cough I have. It's pretty nasty, like the cough is from a chest infection or something. It's gotten to the point where 1) I can't sleep 2) my throat is constantly sore and 3) I'm weezing and you can here it in my normal breathing (I'm taking my asthma puffers to help this).

This really sucks. May 24 weekend and I just started my job and I'm sick🙁

BTW, one of my asthma puffers expired in March. I'm still using it and it seems effective. I can get another, but is there any really bad reason why I should discontinue using it now?

I'd say you are about 2 weeks past... is your cough... "productive"... are you coughing up yellow and green sh!t??! The wheezing in normal breathing is a bad sign, I'd get checked out to ensure you don't have strep or anything else worse.

<--- Medical student (senior).

How long have you had this cough? The typical course (do you say that in english?) of a pneumonia is about 6-10 days, the days after the 4-5 being the most dangerous to your lungs but not always the most symptomatic. Also, some types of pneumonia might last longer. It might also (of course) be a viral infection (or a bacterial upper airway infection), and so on...

I don't know about the asthma puffer, btw, so I'll not answer that question.

Geeeeeeeeeez GL, If I were you I'd wait awhile..... That is, if my life insurance was nice and paid up. 😛 GO TO THE DOCTOR, SILLY!!!!! NOW!!

Errr, okay. In the morning is soon enough. 🙂

If you are able to post to the forums at this hour, I would say you have some time wait until you must go to the doc 🙂

Well I went to the Raptor's game last Friday. I cheered like hell and the next day I developed a sore throat. I thought it was because of the cheering so I thought nothing of it. On Sunday I still had the sore throat and by Monday I started to cough a bit. Today (well Wednesday) has been the worst so far.

Yes I'm coughing up nasty green yellow crap (I tried to keep that outta the thread so as not to gross people out😉).

My mom's an RN and she mentioned something last week about a nasty virus going around our area.

I had pneumonia once when I was 12 so I hope it's not that (I don't think it is). I have no fever, just this cough.

If it's viral there's nothing the doctor can really do for me right? But if it's some sort of bacterial infection they'll prescribe amoxicillin or something equivalent? <--- as you can see I've had my fair share of chest infections.

UPDATE
Alright. Guess I'll go see the good ol' doc tomorrow morning.

Since we're Canadian and don't have to pay for our doctor's visits, I see nothing wrong with at least getting it checked at a walk-in clinic, if you have no other pressing, urgent, matters to attend to. 🙂

I know a friend who has had a cough originating from the cold for 2 years! It must have messed up the nerves that tell you to cough. It's annoying being her friend because she is coughing all the time. We don't comment on it anymore though.(aren't we nice😉)

GL - yes, I've had that crud so many times it's not even funny...

URI - Upper Rhespiratory Infection

Expect to get 250mg capsules of Amoxicillin (penicillin based product)
pink and navy capsules, kinda cool lookin.

Yeah, I'm only a 3rd year med but I think you should go see the doc. Amoxicillin looks good. Definitely warrants a chest X-ray if you have asthma complicating the matters.

Also get your asthma meds updated. You never want to run out of these (as you probably already know).

You have nothing if you don't have your health 🙂
