Hmm, how do you play TWENTY QUESTIONS?

no, i'm not messing around, and no, i'm not a complete idiot (partial), but how do you play twenty questions? i thought two or more people just ask each other questions, but after seeing a movie, i wasn't so sure. the movie was bill and ted's most excellent adventure or something like that. on their descent to hell, they began to play 20 questions. and when they were playing, they said things like, "d00d, good one!" so this leads me to believe that maybe there are guidelines to playing. are there any?
